My Story

Clarence is a big, beautiful, orange tiger. When you are holding this large, soft bundle of fur, the purring starts, and you feel the delicate kiss, you feel like you?ve been accepted. He doesn?t show his soft side to just anybody. There are a few special people in his life and he is still looking for the right adopter. Clarence definitely has personality! This pussycat likes to play. His favorite is his version of catch. He tosses the ball out of his kennel, you pick it up and put it back in, he bats it back out, you pick it up etc. He is amusing to watch when he plays by himself and stalks imaginary prey. In his own way he is very sweet, especially when he is sleeping on his back , or in the hideaway in the corner of the kennel. Dogs don?t frighten this cat?in fact we use him to test dogs for cat friendliness because we know he won?t be intimidated. When Clarence gets wound up, you have to wait for him to relax or risk the wrath of claws and teeth. Man and beast learn to keep their distance once the warning signs are shown. Clarence would make a great lap cat, if only he could tolerate being held for more than a minute. He was named after the angel in ?It?s a Wonderful Life?, who is trying to earn his wings. Clearly, our Clarence needs a few more bells to be rung. In the six months since he has been at the shelter (although sometimes it seems much longer to his caregivers), Clarence has come a long way. The clawing is more playful and the teeth don?t sink in, but we would still like him to find that perfect home with experienced adults or family with older children. It will be very rewarding if you have what it takes to calm the tiger in this kitty. Call 716/326-PAWS (7297) to make an appointment. And be sure to check out all the dogs, puppies, cats and kittens eagerly awaiting homes on our Web site, www.caninerescue.org.
