My Story

12/6/09-this girl was found hobbling along a Dorchester street, pregnant with a broken pelvis. Lucky for her a woman who knew about 2nd chance was driving by and brought her to us. Her sacrum was snapped-she must have been hit by a car and been in unimaginable pain. We had her spayed or she might not have healed properly. Check out the video of her now! Lyla also has a touch of CH-a permanent and non-transferable condition that is contracted in utero when the mother cat never had a $5.distemper shot. She shakes a bit sometimes-but nothing stops this cat. She is very young, about 18 months old and is healthy, tested negative for diseases and vaccinated. She is an alpha cat to the other cats in her foster home-gets along with other docile/submissive cats. In her foster mom's words,"She has a real cuddly side, which becomes more and more apparent the longer she lives here and settles down. Yesterday, she climbed into bed with me--a feat in and of itself, since my bed is a good 4 feet off the floor (evidently she doesn't know she's handicapped)- and curled up next to my heart with her head on my pillow, purring away. She loves attention, and loves being petted, and she doesn't even mind being visited by some of my students. She doesn't mind violin music, and would be a real asset to a music teacher. When I give lessons to my 5-year-old Suzuki students, she waits patiently in a chair a few feet away, listening to them- I've convinced my students that she loves their music- and after they're done playing each piece, they give her a cat treat as a reward for being a good audience. Giving her treats really motivates my students to play pieces over and over; I don't have to coax them to play the way I used to. The students' parents are very pleased with this.UPDATE 4/5/10-Lyla/Sarabella was adopted by one of Chris' students/parents!!! The cat who listened patiently to endless hours of little kids' violin lessons was herself rewarded with a loving home where she will listen to violin for years to come! How great is this story?
