My Story

Matilda (known as Maddie in her foster home) was found in Exeter during the first winter storm of 2008. She was very malnourished, a full-grown cat weighing just five pounds, and at her first visit to the animal clinic, the vet that examined Maddie was shocked by her general weakness and frail body. The vet estimates that Maddie is ten years old, has had vocal cord damage (likely from being left outdoors and having her throat painfully frostbitten). They also felt she may be slightly hearing impaired. Although we will never know the exact circumstances of Maddie's first ten years, ARF volunteers are determined to find Maddie a permanent home that will allow her to forget the past and remember the love and kindness she receives today and in the future! Maddie enjoys lying in your lap, being petted, and loves to be brushed! (Due to her long hair, Maddie needs to be brushed regularly). She will roll over when she thinks it is time for you to brush another area and she is always quick to ask for more with gentle head butts when you stop. If you don’t acknowledge her when you walk past, she will put one of her little white paws out into the air as if to say “hey, look, I am over here come and give me a little love”!! Maddie would do well in any home, she is in a foster home with a dog and gets along well with him, but she prefers to be the only spoiled feline in her home, which she certainly deserves now! ARF is very optimistic about Maddie's future and we know there is a loving family out there looking to give a beautiful senior kittie a chance for happiness. Maddie has tested negative for feline leukemia, been spayed, received her first set of vaccines, received revolution, is dewormed and microchipped.
