My Story

Phoebe is a domestic short haired, spayed female, torbie cat with orange "splotches" in her light brown tabby coat. Phoebe is estimated to be at least 3 years old as of October 2023. Phoebe had been living outside with inadequate shelter, no fresh water, and scrounging for food scraps or hunting small animals and birds for food. Phoebe has had at least 2 litters of kittens, but the kitten production factory is now closed. Phoebe is loving the indoor life with cat appropriate food and many comfy spots for cat naps. Phoebe is a "tree dweller" and likes to be up high to survey her kingdom. However, this habit caused her to fall from a very tall cat tree and resulted in a fracture to the head of her femur upon a clumsy landing in the process of descending from the cat tree. Phoebe had a femoral head ostectomy (FHO) on Dec. 13, 2022, to create a false joint where the left femur fits into the pelvis. This surgery was to remove the pain in her left rear leg and prevent arthritis from developing in her left hip later in life. Phoebe was the second cat in 3 months that required an FHO surgery for our small rescue. Phoebe is still as quick and agile as any adult cat who never had orthopedic surgery, although she could stand to lose a pound to increase her speed, flexibility and mobility. For an adult cat, Phoebe still has an "inner kitten" that was denied her when she became a young mom, and she will get the "zoomies" while playing with toys and chasing invisible mice and birds. Phoebe is outgoing and friendly with humans, but does not like other cats, especially adult males even if neutered. Phoebe likes to be in the same room as the humans and even on the same couch, but she is not a exactly a lap cat. Phoebe is best placed as the only pet in the household. Spayed; current on vaccinations; litter box trained; microchipped; and negative for both feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus. Unknown with dogs or children.
