My Story

If you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten from Almost Home read our adoption policies at https://AlmostHomeAdoptions.com/adopt before visiting. Tabitha was lucky enough to find her way to Almost Home with her 5 one-day-old babies. This was her 6th litter of kittens while living in a garage of cats. She arrived as a very nervous and protective momma. Over time Tabitha’s hisses and belly grumbles became less intense and she began to want to be near her foster human, insisting on being pet as she purred and rubbed on their legs. She still startles easily, and all socializing has been on her terms. Tabitha must be the one in charge of making the next move, and every move. Be patient. She will eventually make the moves. After a few months in foster care she now talks and insists on pets and good ear rubs throughout the day as she purrs whether her human is standing, walking, sitting in a chair or on the floor. She has walked on a lap but has yet to lay in one. She will lay next to her person or stay close. I would not be surprised if she enjoyed laps eventually since she really wants to be near her human. Still no petting happens without her making the approach, but she approaches often throughout the day and even gently grabs her human’s arm with her paws to remind them to pet more. Tabitha now plays with toys, especially teaser type interactive toys. She also enjoys hanging out in a window and watching the world outside, or napping on a cat tree or high shelf on the wall. When greeted with a cheerful “Hi, Mamma” she typically answers back and comes down from her resting places for more petting. When her kittens went to AHA for adoption before her, she was missing the company of other cats and wanted to be with the foster family’s cats. Tabitha would enjoy being adopted into a home that has another cat wanting a friend. She should not be in a home with small children, though, because she does startle and gets nervous and protective when approached quickly. Tabitha is not the immediately outgoing, lap kitty that most are looking for. If you have a big heart, patience, and understand cat behavior, Tabitha could be a great cat for you!
