My Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
Bagel is from Texas. We believe that he has spent his life up til now, tied up outside,
because
of urine staining on his fur when he was found. This poor boy was found in a bush, with a partial rope still
attached
to his
collar
that had gotten tangled up in said bush. He was barking in distress, but quieted down as soon as people showed up to help him. He was microchipped, but no one ever took the time to register it, so we had no way to contact his previous owners. After his stray hold was up, he was brought into rescue, and has been thriving. he is a very sweet, chill dog.. Your typical beagle temperament.. just sweet as pie.. but always sniffing for food.. lol. He is completely potty trained, picking it up at his foster's home quickly. He is also crate trained, taking all of his meals and high value treats there, as well as sleeping there soundly through the night. Bagel is your typical Beagle.. just the sweetest temperament, he has not been exposed to any cats, but his foster mom thinks he'd be just fine (most likely completely ignoring them) with a cat, but we
always
recommend
slow intros with new animals, and always making sure that kitty has a safe and secure exit if need be. Bagel is absolutely obsessed with food.. His
foster mom said that he absolutely LOVES snuffle mats, and foraging for his food in general
.. his
favorite
time of day is breakfast and dinner.. followed closely by snuggle time on the couch after a nice walk where he can just keep that beagle nose to the ground.. sniffing.. just sniffing everything! Bagel is pretty indifferent to
other
animals, kind of choosing to just do his own thing, but still watching and learning from the other dogs at his Texan foster home. If you think that you could give this sweet sweet boy the perfect place to land here in MN, please fill out an adoption application today! He can't wait to meet you!
They arrive in Minnesota on 8/10/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 5pm and 9pm. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.
One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don't let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease.
Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start's Foster to Adopt (FTA) program.

They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start's partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity 'restrictions' which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.
