My Story

Banjo is a beautiful male Golden Retriever / Shepherd mix adult dog, about 1-2 years old. He is completely housebroken and trustworthy in the house. He lives with a small male chihuahua who thinks he is the boss and Banjo, at times, has different ideas. So Banjo has to find a new home. Banjo is great with most dogs but prefers not to live with bossy little taco dogs. Banjo has always been very sweet and loving but has his limits. Because of his size (about 60-70 pounds) we recommend Banjo be adopted to a home with older children as he could easily knock over a younger child. Banjo was found as a stray roaming the streets of Little Rock with a band of pups on the run. They were all hungry, tired, cold, and in need of some love and cuddles to replace their momma’s affection. Animal Services made short work of catching the frightened little pups and it was off to the shelter for the fluffy band of little pups, no longer on the run. Even though the conditions at the shelter are a big improvement over the unknown of being a stray on the streets, there still remains the very real and dangerous possibility of contracting a life threatening disease in the shelter. Shelter staff make extraordinary efforts steps to prevent the spread of disease, but the danger of contracting a life threatening disease remains, especially for the small and most vulnerable pups. While at the shelter, the pups were given some medical attention, and after taking care of their immediate needs, they were sent to the DogsOnly Rescue and Rehab program in Little Rock where they can get not only all the good food, water, and medical attention they need, but also have room to run and play with other dogs in safe comfortable and secure surroundings. The adoption fee is $75 and covers all necessary vet care to include: spay or neuter (mandatory - no exceptions), rabies, micro-chipping and registration, all vaccinations (including all puppy shots, rabies, adult boosters and Bordatella), grooming, Frontline for flea/tick preventative, heartworm check if age appropriate and preventative, collar and 50% of basic training classes. ******PLEASE NOTE - DUE TO RECENT INCREASES IN THE COST OF STAGING ADOPTION SHOWINGS AND ALSO AS A RESULT OF GENERAL SHORTFALLS IN DONATIONS - EFFECTIVE 06/14/08 DOGSONLY WILL ONLY BE SHOWING ON SATURDAYS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. DOGSONLY WILL NO LONGER BE SHOWING ON SUNDAYS. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE AND APPRECIATE YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.********* To learn more about Banjo you can send an email to [email protected] or complete an online adoption application by clicking the orange colored text links at the top or bottom of his official bio page located at www.dogsonly.org/440pop.html. Due to time restraints, we are not able to accept phone calls outside of our showing times at Petco (Saturday only from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM), but we always try and answer all emails within 24 hours. All of our young and adult dogs require a 2 week home visit before finalizing the adoption process. This is to help ensure it is a good match for all involved without making a final commitment. All of our rescues are in private homes and not available to be visited outside of showing times. All DogsOnly foster homes work with our rescues to ensure they are crate trained and most are also housetrained. None of the DogsOnly fosters have cats in their homes so we can only make our best guess as to how our rescues would do with cats. We rescue from high kill shelters and once accepted into our program, none of our rescues are euthanized. We provide for all their vet care, socialization and training until an appropriate home can be found. DogsOnly relies solely on donations and is a 501(c)3 Humane Society. Our mission is to rescue dogs that most other groups are not interested in due to their size, breed, age, health or other various reasons, and to provide education resources for dog owners and those with an interest in the wellbeing of dogs. DogsOnly believes that no dog should be left behind. Thank you for your interest in rescue and in saving the life of a dog. Every day in the United States, 11,000 dogs die. Why Buy When You Can Save? Save a Rescued Dog. If you don't find that special companion you are looking for in the DogsOnly rescue, rehabilitation, and re-home program then please visit Last Chance Arkansas or one of the many other central Arkansas rescue organizations to save a rescued canine companion.
