My Story

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION IN THE DOG'S PROFILE, AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE EMAILING US WITH QUESTIONS. Our Volunteers use up valuable time answering questions, when the answers are readily available on our website. Our adoptions come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a facility. MEET & GREETS FOR DOGS IN ONTARIO WILL ONLY BE ARRANGED ONCE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IS APPROVED. THANK YOU!!! Please visit our website for more information: https://www.niagaradogrescue.com/ or fill in our adoption application: https://niagaradogrescue.com/adoption-application.php Name: Bart (20210711-09) Weight: 50 lbs Age: 6 years (DOB 4/17, 2017) Gender: male Spayed/Neutered: yes Breed: border collie/red heeler mix Colour: orange & white Neck size (for collar): 17" Chest circumference (for harness): 25" Height (from top of head): 28" Length (from nose to base of tail): 41" Crate size recommended: medium Good with women: yes Good with men: yes Good with kids: yes but preferably older as running and loud noises may spook him Good with other dogs: yes - he met foster's mom's puppy (unfixed male) and he wasn't too fond of him, but was very good with an older female puppy who was more energetic than the male puppy. He might just be like his brother and is unsure of unfixed males at first no matter how small or big. Good with cats: no House trained: yes Crate trained: work in progress. He's quiet and sleeps through the night but if he needs to be put in during the day, he might bark for awhile, but eventually settles down. Energy level: with foster - low-medium, but he could change once he fully comes out of his shell. Can be handled/touched: yes, but may get startled if he doesn't notice you and you touch his back, so slow movements are preferred until he's comfortable. Barker: at times, yes Flight risk: potentially. Have been working on his recall in the backyard and while he's responding to his name quicker, he still does get distracted on his way back to you. Food aggressive: hasn't shown any signs of food aggression with us, but still best to feed dogs separately. Current food: Alpo Walks on leash: somewhat, but still needs some work. Leash reactive to people or dogs: I think so. Will bark at people at first even if he knows who they are but settles down. Hasn't shown any aggression towards strangers. (He is very possessive of our backyard and will lose his mind if he sees anyone out there regardless if he knows them or not, but settles down a little bit if they come up to say hi.) Rides well in car: yes, but sometimes get car sick Destructive: Hasn't been with us, but could be once he's more comfortable. Needs a home with a yard: yes, maybe best if it's either a wooden/privacy fence or no close neighbours. Needs a home with another dog: I think so. HIs demeanour changes a little when he's by himself vs. when he's with our two dogs. Can live in an apartment: no. Foster Notes: He prefers to eat his food with water added. I attempted to give it to him with no water once and he kept poking it with his nose as if waiting for water to magically appear. He loves to cuddle and will paw at you whenever he wants attention. He’s such a sweetheart and we both really want the best possible home for him.
