My Story

Baxter is a sweet senior sir who walks great on leash and LOVES belly rubs! If youre looking for a calm companion who will give you all the love in the world in exchange for a few scritches to his tummy, look no further!! Baxter lived in his last home for five years after being adopted from another shelter out of state. His former people said that he was housebroken in that home and was well- behaved when left home alone. They described him as a playful and affectionate dog who loves toys. During a short stay in a foster home Baxter was a quiet houseguest who loved sleeping on the couch or his fosters bed. He was perfectly behaved when left home and was housebroken. He loved playing tug o war with his stuffed animals and was described by his foster as friendly, cuddly, and independent (though he does love attention too). Amazing foster dog! I would recommend anyone to foster (or adopt) him. Genuinely the sweetest best dog anyone could ask for. During another short foster stay Baxter again showed what a well-behaved boy he is- were sensing a theme here!! His foster said that he was an angel when left alone at home or around his people, loves to nap on the couch, and I basically a big couch potato. He is the sweetest boy and is amazing with people. I still can't believe he was surrendered because he is the sweetest dog and he is so well behaved. He can sit and he listens well to directions. He loves to give kisses and gets excited to go outside. He will jump up in the air once to show that he is excited and then will sit before we put the leash on him. He is very food motivated. We wish we could adopt him because he is so amazing! Although he did not interact with any children, he is so gentle and sweet that I think he could make a great family dog. He is low energy except for the zoomies once every few days. We really hope he gets adopted soon because he deserves a loving family. Here's what one of his volunteer friends at the shelter said: Baxter is a smiley buddy with fantastic leash manners. He waits politely at doors each time we exit or enter. He is mellow on his walks and not reactive to any noises of the kennel or people or dogs around. He is extremely calm on the walk, as if hes doing a job that he wants to do well. As we got towards more open areas, he took his time to sniff along the ground, never darting or pulling towards interesting scents. A mannerly gentleman who seems much younger than his 7 years! Baxter would like to meet any resident dogs before heading home and is looking a home without small dogs or other small pets. Ask to meet Baxter today!!
