My Story

Bear came to us after he was abandoned in a motel room in Central Phoenix. It was two days before the staff realized that Bear had been left and the owner was not coming back. When Bear was picked up, he had a pretty severe case of diarrhea which has been cleared up and he was non weight bearing on one of his front legs. He has severe dysplasia in the elbow with arthritis and is being treated with metacam, glucosamine and tramadol for the pain. He is doing better now that he is on medication. He had a full panel blood test which was all negative.

He is a little sensitive about his feet being touched possibly to not have been groomed for some time. He has now been shaved down to get rid of all of the matting and he was good about the grooming. We will try to get new pictures posted of his new look. Bear/Kronk is a very big boy at 107 lbs and not as obese as we thought he may be under all of that hair. He does need to lose a few pounds however.

We are not certain of his background so he will NOT be placed with children under the age of 12 and those children need to be dog savvy. Bear does like people. Bear does get along with other dogs unless they are to active for him. He will let them know that his leg does need protection. However, even though he only had the use of three legs, he easily bounded up in the car that came to pick him up.

The best home for Bear will be one with no children and preferably no other pets or a female dog. A good home for him would be someone who is retired or works from home at least part of the time. It will also be best that the new owner have big dog experience. Bear does not seem to be a laid back bouv. But then he has not had a normal life having lived in a motel room for some time. But since we have only had him a few days, that may change as he gets more comfortable in his surroundings and the pain is some what alleviated. In spite of the leg problem, he does appear to be a healthy strong boy that needs a wonderful home for the next few years. He more than deserves it!

An application is available on our website under the adopt tab. www.vsgiantschnauzerrescue.org and a home visit will be done after the application is received. Bear can be visited after emailing us at [email protected] .Thank you for your interest!
