My Story

Bernice. Ah, Bernice. This is a dog that when you are walking together down the street people will stop you to say " my, what a happy dog ! " She is always interested in what you are, she loves to meet every day with a smile, and has a temperment that many of us could learn from. Bernice was adopted from Bloomfield approximately a year ago, never spayed :( and has now been returned because her owner had medical issues. Bernice needs her REAL home, where her new owner will first and foremost care enough to want her spayed asap. Because she is an intact female, she will be adopted utilizing the Animal Population Control Program, which credits new owners towards the cost of the spaying and vaccinations. Bernice is crate trained in the home, and may be aittle much for the smaller children. She knows they are all about the play, and the jumping, and she might join in too much. Bernice is a good girl, she really wants someone to just be her buddy. She loves to ride in the car, she likes other dogs, she is a little too interested in cats and probably has a small prey drive. She is pretty good on a leash, but it's always hard to tell with impounded dogs because they want to be outside so badly they pretty much explode when I take them out. This is a nice dog that can make someone very happy. Call to meet her! UPDATE: 05/31/07 Bernice is sucha great dog, she now has been with me for WAY too long, and is so desperate to please, and to be loved in a home. She walks beautifully on a leash, she is so happy to be with whoever she is spending time with. Please call soon for Bernice, this is a dog who will be great in a home. UPDATE: This is ridiculous. Bernice found someone who loved her, recognized her inner beauty and sweet soul, and a happy ending was in the works. Then, the rules and regulations of a homeowner's association came into play, and Bernice's happy ending turned into just another chapter of captivity at the Shelter. This is a good dog, a dog that will transition into a house beautifully, understands the daily walk schedule as she should, and amuses herself with her own toys. As long as her new home has no cats, and she gets to be the only dog, this one is a no-brainer. She has been at the shelter for FAR too long, please someone just make this dog understand that shelter life is not going to be forever.. UPDATE!!!!!! BERNICE HAS A HOME!!! The person who had come and fallen in love with Bernice made the situation work through determination, perseverance, and single-mindedness. Bernice was very happy to leave the Shelter, she jumped in the car as soon as the door was opened, taking her stuffed squeaky with her. Her new owners understand her need for a routine, her dislike of cats, and her capacity for love and a happy forever. This was an ending that made may people happy, Bernice had many cheerleaders and I am sure a round of "hurrahs" will be heard throughout the area!! Yeah Bernice!
