My Story

Requirements: -Bernie must have another compatible, calm dog in the home approximately his size -If there are children in the home, they must be 15+ years old and respectful of a dog's boundaries -Bernie's home must have a fully secured 6 fenced yard (no apartments) with a yard big enough to run around in -Bernie must be leashed at all times when not in a secured space (going for walks) and must never go to a public dog park -Even thought Bernie loves being outside, he cannot be an fully outside dog and deserves to be a cherished member of the family living inside with his humans and animal siblings **PLEASE READ BERNIE'S FULL BIO BEFORE APPLYING AND, IF YOU FEEL YOU CAN FULFILL ALL THE REQUIREMENTS WE WILL GLADLY REVIEW YOUR APPLICATION, IF YOUR APPLICATION DOES NOT MEET HER REQUIREMENTS WE CANNOT ENTERTAIN YOUR APPLICATION FOR HIS SAFETY** Bernie's Past Life: Bernie came to us from a life of being kenneled 24/7 in a large-scale breeding facility. He had no exposure to the world outside of his kennel, had no socialization with people, and knew nothing but an overcrowded, loud barn. His only purpose in life was to breed and make money for the kennel owners. When Bernie entered foster care, he struggled a lot with anxiety and was unable to trust the loving humans that were caring for him. With a lot of time and a lot of work, Bernie is learning to be a house dog. He needs a special home and a special family ready to continue his training and care with patience and kindness. He has a lot of love to give, he just needs the opportunity to show the right family the kind of dog that he can be. Pup-sonality: Hi, Bernie here.Just call me Mr. B!I thought I'd take a second to introduce myself.I'm a year-and-a-half-old Bernese/Poodle mix who's been in a great foster home for a little while, and now I'm ready to find my very own fur-ever family. I'm looking for a patient family because I can be a little anxious at times. It will take me a while to get used to my new house and my new family.I promise after I've had some time to warm up, I won't be so scared anymore. I love other dogs and I get along fine with cats.I really, really want another dog to play with me, especially outside my favourite place, and to go for lots and lots of walks.Did I mention that I LOVE walks?!I REALLY love my walks outside, so many smells and sights!I would do best with a family that can walk me every day since I am so young and energetic, and another dog my size would be a dream come true.I would just love to run and play with my new family outside as much as possible, I truly love the great outdoors. This summer, I was introduced to a kiddie pool of water and it was the bestest thing.I love playing in the water and making everything wet. Maybe throw a few toys in there and we can really have a party. I am still adjusting to life inside a house.I am embarrassed to admit that sometimes, when I'm alone for too long, I may still kinda go' inside.I'm really sorry, but I am still a puppy learning the ropes.Just a little more positive reinforcement house-training and I'm sure it won't happen for much longer. In my foster home, I don't use a crate and I think I've had enough of being couped up for a lifetime. My bed is definitely my happy place, a nice comfy place to rest after a long day.I love my chew toys and have never chewed on anything that I shouldn't, so having lots of chew toys around to keep me busy would be awesome.Did I mention that I really like to go for walks?Oh yeah, I did, just making sure! Just a reminder that I had a pretty solitary, lonely beginning before being rescued, but with the right amount of love, patience, and acceptance, I am sure to be a great family member and trusted companion for a lifetime of fun and adventure! Medical Note: Bernie has been given Pro Heart 12 (this medication protects against heartworm disease for 12 months) on May 26, 2023 and therefore only requires Nexguard each month for flea/tick prevention for 12 months post-injection. After 12 months, he will require a new prescription of Nexguard and Heartguard or Advantage Multi for year-round ongoing preventative treatment.
