My Story

Meet Big Jon, our friendly neighborhood big guy! This sweet boy has never met a stranger, and he likes to make instant best friends out of new dogs, cats, and people that he meets. Confident, calm, and loving, Big Jon likes to be touching his people either with a protection pyr-lean or the classic pyr-paw; he just can't get enough affection! After a difficult start in life that landed him severely matted in Animal Control, he is learning what it means to be cared for in boarding while he waits for a foster or forever home. Due to the condition of his coat, he needed to be shaved, so he isn't quite in his final form just yet. We're excited to see how gorgeous his coat is when it comes back in and receives proper care! Big Jon walks well on a leash, is neat in his kennel, and even has very pretty sparkling teeth. He has all the ingredients that make a lifelong best friend, and he is so deserving of the chance to live with, and love on, people who see his big heart in those kind eyes. Does your family have room in your heart for Big Jon? - Written by K.P. NYS Registered Rescue # RR102 NGPR dogs are in foster homes at the location specified on their full listing. View the full listing (with location, fee and application link) at HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTABLE-DOGS Completion of an application is required to be considered for any dog. Please fill out the application on our website and we will contact you. HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTION-APPLICATION/ Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
