My Story

Introducing Birdie. This girl’s story starts off when she was at a high kill shelter in Houston as a small puppy (last picture). At 4 months old she was put on the euth list because she had already been at the shelter a month with no interest. She was adopted right before her deadline and we all celebrated. She made it out alive!! Fast forward 3 months and she was found as a stray with a limp, wound on her nose and emaciated. That's right her new 'family' dumped her to fend for herself once she wasn't a tiny puppy anymore. When we saw she was back at the shelter and on the euthanasia list for the 2nd time we knew we couldn't fail her; people had already done that enough in her short 7 months of life. Now on to the good part. Birdie is a ray of sunshine. Truly. You would never in a million years know her past has been such a hard one. She is derpy and goofy; still figuring out how to smoothly operate her long legs. She has never met a stranger and loves all dogs she has met. The tiny pups (her foster has a 3 pound puppy) are her favorite to play with because she thinks they are the same size as her. She is very food motivated and is catching on quick to commands including sit and wait. She is already potty and kennel trained. Her foster has kids ranging from 3-9yrs old and she does well with all of them. She is still a jumpy/excited puppy which she will need to continue working on especially in regards to the super little littles. If you are thinking to yourself how on earth did she end up on the euthanasia list two times she sounds pretty much perfect?! We are wondering the same exact thing!! She is one of the good ones and we can't wait to find her a real forever home that will love her for the rest of her days. Birdie is being fostered in Houston, Texas but is available for adoption in many locations around the country. The shelter had her listed as a cattle dog, we think she has a lot of similarities to a black-tri australian shepherd and German Shepherd. But these are all just guesses, we don't know her breed for sure. We can tell you without a doubt that she 100% good girl though.
