My Story

Bishop is Ready for Adoption! I’m Bishop, and I’m a 7-year-old Boston-mix boy ready for my forever home! Can you guess the other breeds that make up my adorable face? I’ll tell ya below, but no peeking! Comment how many of the breeds you guessed right! I’ve got quite a personality and an inquisitive face! At the mention of food, or if you say something that interests me, I'll tilt my head like an owl! My foster mom calls me a parkour dog—when I know she’s going to the kitchen to feed me, I'll jump up and literally push her butt to get going! I give kisses but am respectful to stop when asked, even though I may wanna stick to you like Velcro! If you’re taking a shower, I’ll probably lay waiting by the door for you to be done. Seriously though, what is a “hair mask” and why does it take so long? I’ll need time to decompress, more than some dogs. I’ll have to get comfortable with the sounds of your home, the routine of your house, and simply you as my forever person. But once I’ve learned I can trust you, and see that you are respectable and confident, I’ll be happy to melt against your legs on the couch, snuggle at your feet under the blankets overnight, bring you my favorite toy when you come home and when I wanna play, and generally adore you every day. My perfect forever person would be a confident leader who can give me structure, routine, and understand me for who I am! When it comes to new visitors, I’ll let them know I’m here, but I’ll wait by my bed until it’s time to say hi! I like to give them a good sniff once they’re inside, but sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed if they’re too loud or shower me with too much attention too quickly. I know I’m cute and all, but I prefer to approach you rather than to be approached! When it comes to other dogs, I’m more curious and calm with dogs my own size, and the calmer they are, the calmer I tend to be. I think, with proper introduction, I’d be fine with a dog around my size, but not much bigger, unless it was an older, calmer, quieter dog comfortable being aloof with me. In my previous home, I lived with cats for years, and am generally polite around them. I’m very sound sensitive, and can become easily overwhelmed, so my ideal forever home would not have any kids. I have bursts of energy and love long walks or hikes, but I’m also professional couch potato (you could call me a “pro-tato”). I would do fine either with a quiet family with not much to do, or an active individual interested in taking me on regular adventures! For someone in the latter category, I’ll need some training to help with my anxiety in new places. Once I’ve learned to trust you and am familiar with the environment, I will thrive in an active lifestyle! I’m house and crate trained—in fact, my crate helps me to feel safe when I’m left alone. I know basic commands like sit, down, and heel. My stay and recall are still a work in progress, but I’m making good strides! I respond well to treats and leash guidance. Gentle leading works best for me. I’m very enthusiastic to learn and please when the environment is calm enough that I can feel care-free! I did have a couple of medical issues in the past, including a UTI and a pulled neck muscle, but I’ve bounced back like a pro and haven’t had any issues since. I had a couple of seizures before coming to my foster home, but I haven’t had any since! I’m on a raw diet, which has helped with my weepy eyes and made my fur super soft. I’m 22 lbs, and otherwise in good health! My foster mom, who’s a full-time dog trainer, is offering free training lessons for my forever family to help me adjust to my new home and ensure I feel safe and secure. There’s a lot about me that makes me unique, and I know the right forever home is out there to love me for me! By the way, besides Boston Terrier, I’m made up of 4 other breeds! If you guessed Shih Tzu, Chihuahua, Pekingese, and Lhasa Apso, you’d be right! Be honest, what gave it away… my adorable underbite? ? Requirements: - No children - Cats okay - Dogs okay (similar size to Bishop or smaller) - Must be willing to continue Bishop’s raw diet - Must provide quiet, calm environment Bishop is being fostered in West York, PA.
