My Story

Bodhi came to us through senior owners, who made the difficult decision to surrender due to increased physical limitations. Bodhi was dearly loved, and has been to an eight week obedience class. He knows sit, down, come, stand, walk, leave it (a work in progress, as is stay ). He was fearful of dogs and people initially, but became more confident in time. By the last four weeks he wanted to play with all the dogs! The instructor tossed him treats and he warmed to her in the fourth week. New situations can be challenging for Bodhi and require reassurance. He didnt want to go in the car initially now it is no problem! He requires a little patience, but has grown more confident in new situations. He is still a puppy, and he mostly wants to play with other dogs, but owners were new to New Jersey and didnt know other folks with big dogs. Also, he is a strong and healthy dog, and owners were not physically strong enough to hold him if he lunges (leash training is going well, but its a work in progress). A new side walker lead has helped with his walking behavior immensely. They walk in the neighborhood, at Brookdale, and Verona park without incident. He gets lots of exposure. He lives with Stella the ten year old Doodle, and plays with her. Owners are able to take anything from him - he is not aggressive. He eats in his crate so food is not an issue. Bodhi loves people and will jump enthusiastically to greet them, scaring many a runner and grandchild. :). He needs structure and reinforcement of his training, which owners were unable to do. He loves playing ball, and hide and seek. He is enthusiastic about training, is food motivated, and likes being a good boy. He has a big back yard currently, and runs around like crazy in addition to two walks a day. He eats in a crate twice a day, sleeps on the floor of their bedroom but will lay his head on foster at 6 AM to go out. He has always had a foster sibling and owners are retired, so hes used to having someone around. He loves toys and is always happy playing. He is reliably house trained and has a routine (out in AM, eat, out, watch mom read NYT, go for a walk. PM eat go for a walk, watch tv, play catch, go out before bed) He doesnt ask to go out much. He has been neutered as well as groomed, and is absolutely adorable with a coat that is soft as a cotton ball. Bodhis perfect forever home would include an active family, with a companion to play with. He does best when hes around his people, and loves to be active. A fenced in yard is definitely a plus.
