My Story

BOOG ?? aka BooBear & Boogie boy Mixed breed ( Rhodesian Ridgeback mix) Male Approx 6 years old 120 lbs Neutered UTD On vaccination Good with dogs cats unknown This big boy came to us from a shelter after being seized from a horrible place with 2 other dogs. Known as the "big brown dog" The shelter had him for 7 months while awaiting trial. Poor boy arrived there in rough shape, nails embedded in pads and mouth of broken dead teeth. Shelter helped with nails right away. Once trial completed they could release dogs but these are "not good dogs" to be adopted out to the public. Therefore they got added to the Euthanasia list. But because of a special staff member who thought differently, she got busy seeking rescue, she had 7 days to get them out. This is the video we saw along with a Urgent request to save this dog. Its difficult to watch a innocent scared animal but can you imagine how he is feeling? With all our foster homes already full with dogs in need ( Covid dogs ) it wasn't looking hopeful but luckly one was willing to take on more...no one left behind!! ???. BOOG ?. Named because he looks like the bear from the Open Season movie. He is lovingly called Boo Bear ? because he is a super sweet Teddy bear BUT with fear issues! This gentle giant is scared of new people and new situations but with loving patience, a slow hand and routine, he is very trusting. He has given this trust to his foster mom, rolling over for belly rubs, laying his big heavy head completely on lap for scratches. He LOVES LOVES to receive loving touches but doesn't want to share his person with other pets in the house while he is in close contact with his person. To be expected from a dog whom never received love before and now seeks it. Why we feel he would thrive being the only dog or a confident female willing to share her people with him. Boog is so darn adorable, acts like a tiny dog, unaware of his size and power. Super happy guy, shows it with his entire body wiggling and tail wagging when he sees the people he trust. What we know of his past is that he lived in a dirty cage with no care provided. Nails where so long they had grown into his pads. His mouth had few fractured and dead teeth from chewing on cage for years! He has been disappointed by humans again and again yet all he wants, is to be loved by one and live inside a loving home with his people being spoiled with soft beds and toys. Enjoying outside adventures with a trusted friend. After 10 months in our foster care program this is what we have learned about Mr. Boog. This stunning looking boy LOVES being with his person, receiving all the belly rubs. Running free in the forest looking for treasures, like sticks. Boog loves to romp around with you for a game of "who can get there first". He loves routine, his morning toy time outside is the best thing to watch. He is a happy Happy boy! Boog has learned to "come" when called, as tasty treats are his second favorite thing ?. Boog is good with the dogs in his foster home but not really interested in them. He seems to forget he is a big boy, especially when walking around the little Pug who gets bumped when he is trying to get to his person. Boog would be fine with a confident calm large breed female to learn from but also fine as only dog so he won't have to share the love. BooBear loves soft toys or socks ( if accidently left on floor by silly humans), he carries in his mouth and won't want to give up. Will trade for high value treat. This sweet boy has show us he is a very calm gentle giant but when in uncomfortable situation can be reactive. He is a powerful dog and must be taken seriously. He may look like that super friendly Retriever or Lab you see around but at 120 pounds and limited experience in our world, he certainly is not. Although he thinks he is a tiny lap dog somedays Boog is a smart boy and would like to use his brain. Would do well learning obedience skills, training with his new family is great for bonding and confidence. Boogie boy loves his hikes, great off leash, will stay close to you, until he is comfortable enough of his area to explore. Enjoys chasing a stick but will want to eat it, so you find new ones. He is also good on leash with no distraction. Inside Boog LOVES his bed ( first one he ever had) and or the soft rug in main room, he curls up on next to his foster family when it's quiet. If too loud or busy he will retreat to his room. Boog is 100 % House trained. Very quiet, clean and calm. Will bark if knock at door, or strangers approach. Boog is a real gem. With his sweet temperament, stunning strawberry blonde silky smooth coat and those gentle brown eyes, wow does this boy have it going on. Everyone he has met, falls in love instantly. Yes he has that much charisma but he requires a experienced owner to continue with his training . Fully fenced yard, no small kids. contact www.furkidsrescue.ca
