My Story

Meet Bravo (now Toby). He is great little dog looking for a new home.

Toby came up several months ago and has been doing well. The vet guesses he is around 10 years though he acts much younger. He is very friendly with all people (though little kids might not be a good match for him) and all other dogs. He loves to go for walks.

Toby is housetrained (though he may do some marking when he first arrives in a new home) and loves his crate at night.

Toby's only downfall is that he LOVES to scoot out the door and go for a romp around the neighborhood. His owners are older and they are just not quick enough to catch him before he is out the door. As much as it breaks their heart to do it, they do not feel they can keep him safe and that it is in his best interests to rehome him.

A fenced in yard would be great for this little guy, or a set up where he is unable to run out the door into the big wide world. Don't miss out on this sweet little gem!

Bravo is marked URGENT because our partner shelter in Arkansas is full. Bravo is doing well in his foster home and is with big and small dogs but is intimidated by big dogs and prefers to hang out with the smaller ones. He loves to snuggle with his foster mom on the couch and have his blankie over him

, Bravo was rescued from a high kill shelter by our partner shelter in Arkansas. The staff just couldnt bear to put this sweet little dog to sleep. He appears to be a purebred Min Pin at about 6 years old.

Min Pins easily live to 15 so he still has his whole life ahead of him. He is working on his house training as he was probably kept as an outside dog. He was found living on the streets not neutered with a horrible spike collar on, which has since been thrown in the trash

Min Pins are loyal sweet intelligent lap dogs but they are not a breed for everyone. If you are interested in Bravo please read up on the breed. Since bravo is 6, he is not as high strung as the younger ones. Bravo will need to be walked with a harness to protect his throat and must never be let of leash, unless in a well fenced in yard.

Bravo might not have been treated very well as when he got to his foster home and was held, he shook pretty badly, Now that he realizes he will not be hurt he cries to be put on your lap or held. He sleeps with his foster mom in bed with the covers on. Bravo will not do well living the majority of his life in a crate (he hates it!) and wants to be with his people!! Since Bravo is small, he will not be placed in a home with children younger than 10 or familys planning on having children. Please give Bravo the loving home he has waited his whole life for!!,

All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids. Before sending an inquiry, please read the How To Adopt Page & FAQ pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net. This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending.

This dog is Urgent because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter. All Senior dogs 6 years or older have a reduced adoption fee of $200. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from Arkansas to Maine. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and can be e-mailed attention of Christine: [email protected] for this particular dog.
