My Story

Bree, our 12 year old 35 pound terrier mix, was surrendered to our local shelter after a death in her previous family. That's a particularly sad way to end up in the shelter, but Bree is doing her best to roll with the punches. Like many senior dogs, Bree needed dental care, so we took her in to fix her teeth and find her a retirement home. Bree is turning out to be the kind of retiree we hope to be...active, funny, and sassy with a streak of stubborn. We're really excited for Bree's new people to meet her. Bree sailed through her dental procedure with flying colors and now has a sparkling white smile to match her personality. We also checked a senior lab panel on Bree and found no abnormalities. She appears to be very healthy, but Bree could have told you the same thing. Bree has been a fun, easy house guest. She is great with people and is friendly, cuddly but not clingy, and still likes an occasional squeaky toy. Bree enjoys walks but is happy to lay on the couch too. Potty trained, Bree will direct her people toward the door when she needs to be let out. She can be trusted to be left alone. However, like many senior dogs, 4 hours is Bree's bladder's max. Her adopter will need to let her out mid day. We suspect Bree would be fine with kids, but due to her age, the kids in her home should be over 10. Bree's too sensitive to loud noises to tolerate toddlers. There are no cats in Bree's foster home so we aren't sure how she does with them. A slow careful introduction would be recommended. Bree lived with several other dogs in her previous home and was good friends with them. We think she wouldn't mind a dog friend in her future. Bree is heartworm negative, microchipped and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives. Adopting a senior dog is really rewarding, especially when they are as smart and sweet as Bree.
