My Story

We think Butch turned 8 this year, and what a wonderful dog!!!!!!! Here is what his foster Mom has to say about him: " Butch appears to be a full-blooded chocolate lab. He was just neutered, but so far has only 'marked' outside in the yard where he's allowed to. His teeth are very worn down, but he can eat his crunchy dog food just fine, and even enjoys chewing on rawhide toys at times. He is a VERY mellow, happy, loving boy who just adores everyone who wants to give him some attention. He's a big guy, about 60-70 lbs, and is somewhat underweight right now, but he's happily working on that. He does just fine with cats, but does give a warning growl when they come too close to him when he's eating, or when he's got a chewie. He's also great with other dogs, and will eat his food with our dog eating hers only a couple of feet away, without so much as a single grr. Butch is also excellent out in the yard off-leash, and will always come when called. He loves to chase chipmunks and knows what "go get him!" means. =) Butch also knows what sit and stay mean, and will happily do so for indefinite periods of time, and has done it for me for up to half an hour...hehehe. I think Butch would be a great dog for a family with children, or for someone looking for their first dog. He's very low-maintenance, and the only thing he really demands is your love."

This dog is from a high kill shelter in Arkansas where he did not have a chance. He was obviously loved and cared for and given heartgard most of his life or he would have died of it years ago, but something happened and he became a stray, he was found emaciated and recently exposed w/heartworms and was diagnosed w/stage one heartworm. A kind family found him and cared for him, and even treated him for heartworms, but he was used to being an inside dog, and they had a new baby and wanted an outside dog. Won't you please give this loving boy a retirement home?

This dog is originally from Marion Animal Shelter. These animals are in dire need of homes because the shelter is over crowded and must euthanize regularly. If you cannot provide a home, sponsors are welcome and needed for heartworm treatment and/or other medical expenses for dogs coming to New England. Foster families are also needed from time to time. Fostering a healthy dog or one that is in treatment will also save lives!
