My Story

All animals in Safe Paws' care were set to be euthanized. We cannot guarantee the breed of any animal in our care and the breed listed is simply our best guess based on observation. If you're interested in adopting or having a one on one meet and greet, fill out an application by clicking the Apply for Adoption or by visiting safepawsia.org. Euth reason: Space Adoption Fee: $250 CATS: Good with cats DOGS: Good with dogs KIDS: Good with kids KNOWN COMMANDS: Sit, lay down KNOWN CRATING: Kennels well and is quiet KNOW HOUSEBREAKING: No accidents in kennel or around the house FROM THE FOSTER: Introducing Carlton! Carlton has been an amazing dog in the last 7 weeks we've had him! Why hasn't he been adopted? Is it because he has some pit in him? Or because he is under the stigma of "black dog syndrome"? Or that he was HW+? He's got so many great and funny qualities to him compared to things he is needing to work on. Good qualities... Dog/Cat friendly Loves all humans, even the littles. He is about 2, so he is still a young dog himself and he doesn't understand space of others sometimes. Walks well on a leash. Doesn't pull much. Kennel and potty trained. He will tell you when he has to go outside, if you don't pay attention he will have accidents. Loves playing with toys. He will drag every single toy out of the toy box. Not a huge barker! He loves watching instead. LOVES sunbathing and will stay outside all day if he could. Cuddling is another favorite pass time for him. Knows sit, shake, and still working on lay down. And he is treat motivated! He will do anything for food. Things he needs to work on... He likes going bye bye in the car, but is nervous to ride. He loves sitting next to Mae to feel comfort. And HATES the back windows down because of the noise. More rides over time should help him. Isn't a fan of rain, will not go the bathroom outside. But who likes to go outside when it's pouring? Not Me! This one will likely not change. He is a runner. He will take any opportunity to bolt out the door. Putting up gates and safety precautions will help lessen the amount for himnto escape. Steals food from you if you are not looking or counter surf. But very good with correction. Continuing to provide correction will help him eventually understand to not steal food. He does like to jump on you randomly. Still working on correction with him in these bad habits. Continuing to provide correction with him will help. Funny qualities..... He loves nibbling on your toes in the morning to wake you up. Really anytime he wants to play/wrestle, he wants to nibble on you. Does the army crawl across the carpet or bed. Runs from snakes. A garter snake touched him the yard and he ran. If he wants to be next to me, he doesn't care who may be already sitting next to me. He will just sit on them, even if it's the cat. Likes playing with cat toys! And when he lays on the floor or a hard surface, be prepare to be shocked on how hard he is dropping. I swear it sounds like he might break a bone. He is submissive to our 95lb dog, Mae. Mind you he is 55lbs. He will immediately drop and let her dominate him all she wants. HOW TO MEET THIS DOG: This dog is in a foster home.
