A few months later, Carly was adopted by an elderly man who sent us word through our mutual vet how wonderful Carly was doing. Sadly, Carly has been returned to the shelter (April 2007) by her owner as he can no longer take her out for the exercise she needs as he is now suffering from declining health.
Carly is very sweet, loves to play and be petted. She is housebroken and good with other dogs, however, we do not recommend that she goes to a home with small dogs as she does like to chaise squirrels and may mistake a small dog for one. She is not good with small children or cats we have been told. Carly does protect her food and barks at any dog that comes near.
May 7, 2007 - Update: From the director: Carly is living in the house with the director of the shelter and her husband. She says that Carly is a wonderful companion dog. Carly follows you around the house and just wants to be with you. She is a little over weight and it would be great if she went to an active family

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".
If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.
