My Story

Saturday - Sept 15, 2007

The battle between her strong spirit and her fraile body ended today. She quietly went to sleep and crossed Rainbow Bridge in my arms. The hole in my heart is so much larger than her tiny 3 lbs....I miss her terribly. THANK YOU! to everyone who gave support for this brave tiny girl. Her time here with me was as comfortable as possible. She LOVED chicken and cheese, but would eat dog food, if I insisted! Carmel like to sit in my lap while I had my morning coffee and read the paper. I tried to get her to sleep with me; but she preferred her own bed, thank you. She is at rest; my heart aches.....unfortunately, it is only a matter of time before the next case of serious neglect of such a little dog comes this way.....Carmel; I do this in loving memory of you! Love you forever, your foster mom, Jean

Carmel is a sad reminder of what happens when pet owners seriously neglect a dog. While her tiny frame is now pitifully fighting to stay alive, Carmel's spirit is huge and very healthy! As her foster mom, I have decided to keep her here; in my home with me and care for her the very best I can. At this stage in her life, many of her health issues are just not treatable. She has been spayed to stop the growth of mammory gland tumors; but the many that she already has will not be removed - surgery too traumatic for her. Carmel had her teeth cleaned so she is no longer fighting oral infections and she eats better (3 x a day!). An eye infection eventually cost her sight in one eye; so we are trying to get that eye to heal so that surgery to remove it will not be necessary.

Carmel continues to wag her tiny little tail and barks everytime she wants or needs something....she appears relatively comfortable and quite happy. Therefore, as long as we can keep her comfortable and content - she will live here in as much love as I can give her - she deserves so much!
