I'm Casper! My foster mom says I'm such a good, sweet boy. I can be a little shy at first but as soon as I'm comfortable , I will add a lot of laughter, love, and fun to your family. I have a very expressive face with my bright yellow eyes and big ears, you'll always know what I'm thinking. I make the goofiest faces and will follow your every move hoping for some fun, a treat, or my favorite: some pets and kisses. If I'm not getting attention when I want it, I may paw at you to get you to look at me and maybe even bark a little at you. Usually this just means I need to go outside and potty. If I'm just bored and you can't play, I'll give up pretty easy and lay my head down, sometimes dramatically. I am very well potty-trained and can hold it for a long time, I've never had an accident in my foster mom's house since early on when I was still a puppy. I get so excited to see you when you get home, jumping up to greet you and get pets. Even when my foster mom just walks through the back gate to the garbage can 10 feet away and back, where she never left my sight, I get SO excited when she walks back through the gate. I also get very excited for walks and will jump around on the furniture, even the chair you're sitting on, barking my joy that we're about to go. If you direct me to a toy, I'll focus my energy on it so I'm not making too much of a spectacle. Once we're at the door I stand very still to get my harness on and am getting better and better about not pulling on the leash. I sometimes can't help myself when I see a squirrel, bunny, or cat. Someday I'll figure out how to climb trees but for now I just jump up as high as I can on the trunks or poles hoping to reach them. If I see another dog, I'll cry in excitement and pull to try and see them but my foster mom doesn't let me greet strangers. When I see some people, I get excited and cry, and if they're tall and wearing hats, sometimes I'll bark at them but I'm not sure if I'm excited or nervous...maybe both! At home, I will stay pretty near to you, I often will go lay on the couch in another room if you sit at a desk working for awhile but if you make any moves, I'll be right there to follow you to whatever adventure is happening next. I am smart enough that I recognize that when my mom fills her water cup, she's close to the door so I'm guaranteed to go out. Which means the sound of the water dispenser means I'll be running to the door! I know sit, lay down, shake, and (kind of) off. When you do sit or lay down, I want to be touching you, I will squeeze into the little space between you and the arm rest or try to jump in your lap. At the very least I'll stretch out and be laying against you as you watch t.v. or sleep. I love snuggling close to other dogs and have even convinced the dog here to let me lay against her sometimes, even though she doesn’t love it. Also, I'm the best morning dog if you like to sleep in and cuddle. I may need to go potty but I'll jump back in bed and snooze with you forever. My foster mom has started running with me and I'm shaping up to be a great running partner! I can do at least 2.5 miles so far and I only start to slow down a bit at 2 miles.
I'm nervous of kids but if they give me some time to adjust, I will be very affectionate with them. I tend to steer clear of little kids and my foster mom thinks that is best because I don’t know my own size and am not always gentle when I get excited so I could knock one over pretty easily and my excited bark can scare them. I love dogs and have the best time with other pups that love to play and have medium energy. My current foster's resident dog is older and doesn't like to play and I respect her boundaries but she is kinda boring! She can take whatever toys away from me and I won’t argue, I just get sneaky on getting them back. I leave her food bowl alone even though she often tries to eat my food. All that to say, I don't resource guard at all.
