My Story

Animal Profile: Cenote is a 5-year-old (best guess), 35 lb neutered male Mexican mixed breed who was "rescued" as a stray from Mexico by a well-intentioned but naive individual who then transported him to the United States where he has been, understandably, overwhelmed by city life. That individual posted him on Craigslist and Cenote found himself in yet another home in the city, struggling with sights and sounds of city life. Cenote was a street dog and likely lived the pack dog life. You can take the dog out of the streets but you can't take the streets out of this dog and he is and probably always will be extremely alert seeing other dogs. Humans are providers of food and he thrived on the streets thanks to humans, so he understands that humans mean good things. After many months in Seattle it is clear that in order to thrive, Cenote is going to need a home outside the city. His second good Samaritan caretaker has been diligently providing training to get Cenote as close to a family pet as we think he will be. He reached out to Dog Gone Seattle to help with training and appropriate placement. Cenote is now crate trained and house trained, though he loves to mark outside on anything he can. He has had basic obedience training, including leash training. He is friendly to all people but suspicious of all new dogs. He can live with other dogs in "his pack" without issues and would likely enjoy living in a multi-dog home, but meeting new dogs is a process. He is no longer explosively reactive to other dogs on walks after extensive training with Mindful Dog Adventure Academy. Cenote's ideal home would be outside of the city with a fenced yard. He would do fine with other balanced dogs but likely not a good fit for cats. He's friendly with people but not a snuggly couch dog. He is running out of time to find options and we're hoping his unicorn home is out there. Adoption Info: Cenote's adoption fee is $250 which includes his neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, and recent examination by a veterinarian. It also includes a take-home training session with Mindful Dog Adventure Academy to set him up for success. Apply Online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-application
