My Story

Darling CHARLES is so ready to start his new life in a home of his very own. He's a sweet friendly beagle boy, 5-6 years old and fully grown at 32 pounds although he is, ahem, a little chubby. Charles loves to play and adores everyone he meets. He's good with people of all ages, other dogs and cats. When Charles came to us he tested positive for heartworms, which will kill a dog if left untreated. Heartworms are spread by mosquitos. Heartworm treatment is difficult for dogs and hard on human bank accounts. This is why we insist that all of our adopters keep their dogs on a heartworm prevention plan. In addition to heartworms, Charles had been hit by a car AND shot. Thankfully all he needed to recover from those injuries was crate rest. He has completed his heartworm treatment. You may notice the bare patch on his back in photos. That was shaved for his heartworm treatment and the hair is now growing back. The future is looking bright for Charles, all he needs is a home. If you'd like to meet Charles, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Charles at our weekly adoption event, Saturday noon-2 at PetSmart Eastgate. All of our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoption fee covers the dog's veterinary care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip, deworming, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention and any other needed veterinary care. A deposit is required to take a dog home for a trial period. The deposit will be applied to the dog's final adoption fee.
