My Story

Meet Chidori, ACCT-A-170205, a 4-year-old female who is sweet as pie and simply chidor-able! Chidori arrived at the shelter on 7/29 after she was found in a backyard and picked up by ACCT's animal protection officers. Chidori may be shy at first but she is an absolute gem when you get to know her. Her reserved personality means she needs a little bit of extra reassurance to make her feel safe, but once she's feeling more secure, Chidori begins to open up and show her true gentle, sweet, and mellow nature. Check out Chidori's notes below! Behavioral Information: Per staff 7/30 - Such a sweet girl! Submissive behavior - was lying on floor of dog intake, allowed all petting and handling, and showed some appeasement signals like yawning etc. Would nudge her head under my hand to solicit more attention when I stopped petting her. ACA who removed her from kennel said she was shy but he just crouched down and got lower and was able to remove her without any issue. Per staff 7/30 - I took Chidori out to get some photos of her. She was laying at the back of her kennel when I approached, after some baby talk she ended up coming up slowly coming up to the door. When I showed her my leash, gave some slow, low wags and let me gently leash her. She walked nicely outside and took her time sniffing everything. We went into a run and she spent a few minutes sniffing around, she then came up to me with a lose body and nudged my hand with her head slightly asking pets. After a few seconds of head pets she went back to walking around and smelling everything she could. When it was time to go back inside she walked with a lose body. She hesitated at the door to her kennel for a second and then hopped right in. Per staff during a 7/30 behavior evaluation - KENNEL PRESENTATION: Chidori was on the backside of the kennel and was curled up trembling. I went around to the backside as she would not move and lowered the divider. When I opened the kennel door to leash her she remained curled up and allowed me to place the leash over her head. Once leashed she exited slowly without any issues. No issues returning LEASH SKILLS: Did not pull on leash, walked slowly. Housebroken. HANDLING: In the room Chidori was very nervous. I dropped the leash and gave her space in the room while I sat in a chair. She walked around the room and then came back over near me and sat upright in front of me. She remained tense but glanced up at me with softened eye contact. She would gently take the canine carry out treats when offered from me but remained very nervous. I spent a good 15 minutes sitting in the chair and speaking softly to her handing her treats. She would glance at me with soft eyes and when I tapped my leg with my hand she scooted a bit closer. I took handling very slow with her but with time and slow gentle movements she allowed me to pet the top of her head, neck, and upper back. I did small spurts at first, but as time went on she leaned her head on my leg and closed her eyes as I pet her head. She is a very timid girl who needs a slow approach at this time. She did warm up significantly with more and more time together and begin to give little wags and allow more handling while leaning in PLAY: No interest, too fearful TOYS: No interest Per APO 7/29 - Bit the control pole twice during restraint, scared during walk.
