Being fostered near Kamloops
Cindy is a very sweet & shy 8 mo old black female lab? mix, about 60 lb. Her mom looks lab mix and weighs about 60 lb. Her dad is a Dutch Shepherd
Behaviour: Super sweet and shy. She loves to be in your lap even though she’s a bit big for that :) Her foster says of Cindy and Suzanne “They will be that ‘one’ special soul mate dog to someone I know it!“
Quiet in the home, no accidents. No chewing anything she shouldn’t, no counter surfing. “Grateful, respectful”.
Cindy especially loves women, and due to her history takes more time to warm up to men.
Loves the water and must have a dog pool !
Cindy is becoming more confident, relaxed, and trusting as she settles in.
Good with dogs: Cindy loves other dogs, is playful and submissive. She would do best living with another dog who will play with her. She does best with calm, confident dogs - a slightly older dog to take guidance from would be her best match.
Good with cats: Good with indoor and outdoor dog-savvy cats who are dog savvy.
Good with kids: Suzanne and Cindy did really well with 3 calm girls ages 6, 7, and 14. The dogs barked at a 3 yr old girl with high pitched voice though. So no young or nervous/hyper children.
Housetrained: Hasn’t had any accidents indoors at all.
Training: Great on a leash. Comes when called. Cindy is still figuring out life in a home, so obedience training is just starting. First off... Sit. She is willing to please and wants to learn things. Very treat motivated, which will help with training.
Crate trained: Good in crate, sleeps through the night.
Great in cars
Doesn't react to thunder :) The plus of spending her first 6 months outdoors.
Behaviours that need work: Jumps up once she knows you. Needs to learn that Sit gets attention instead. Needs more socialization with men, especially those wearing hats.
Ideal home: Patient, calm adults and 12+ children with dog experience who will patiently socialize her. Cindy needs to live with another playful dog.
Cindy and her siblings are scared by sudden movements, we think they were hit by their previous owner, so no young children is best.
Cindy should have at least a 5’ fence and will need to be kept on leash in the yard for the first couple of weeks, as she can jump quite high. She sticks like glue to her people once she is knows them.
Rescue story: Cindy and her 4 siblings were born to a momma who was an outside dog. Mom and pups were kept in an outdoor kennel. Their owner went to jail when they were very young. The neighbours took it upon themselves to look after the dogs – feeding and water, cleaning the kennel and improving shelter from storms and tornadoes, leash training, and looked for a rescue to take them before the owner got out of jail in July - because who knows what would happen to them then. That’s when we stepped in, just in time too before a hurricane hit.
