Hello! I'm Copper, a Beagle mix puppy with a lot of love to give. I'm a little shy at first, especially around other dogs, but I warm up after a day or so. I'm curious about cats and haven't had any issues with them so far. I'm great with kids—I live with a 2-year-old and a fifteen-year-old, and we get along wonderfully. I can be a bit skittish around strangers and might bark at first, but I adjust quickly once I feel safe.
I'm learning to walk nicely on a leash and can sit on command, but as a puppy, I still need some training. I'm not crate trained yet, and I'm working on my potty training, but I'm making good progress. I love a good mix of activity and relaxation—playing in the backyard, enjoying my toys, sunbathing, and snuggling up for long naps on the couch. A fenced-in backyard would be perfect for me since I have lots of energy to burn.
I'm looking for a forever home with an active family, maybe with kids or a younger couple who wants their first fur baby. I'm very loyal and like to follow my people around, and I don't enjoy being alone. Once I warm up, I'm the sweetest little dog who loves to be held like a baby, snuggle, and protect my puppy sisters. I'm the perfect size to take everywhere!
She/He is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. We cannot hold our dogs for any reason. Unless the dog or puppy is fully vetted we will only consider applications that are within 1 hour or 40 miles of Lemont, IL. This is due to the required vetting at our partner veterinarians. If the dog or puppy is fully vetted we will allow adoptions out of state or outside of our 1 hour or 40 mile restriction. Please do not apply unless you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into the home within five days of approval.
ADOPTION FEE: $500 (includes spay/neuter must be done when the rescue schedules it at one of our partner vets, microchip, rabies vaccine, DHPP vaccine, 4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease ) and a general wellness which includes dewormer, heartworm prevention).
*Please understand that we will spay/neuter no younger than 16 weeks but it is the rescue's discretion when the dog will get that procedure. We know that some veterinarians recommend waiting depending on the breed's projected size but as a rescue, our goal is to prevent further unwanted, "accidental" litters. Spaying and neutering also have many benefits for cancer prevention and avoiding behavioral problems. The American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association support pediatric spay and neuter procedures for cats and dogs as early as 8-16 weeks of age. We always assess and speak with our partner vets when is the best time to perform this procedure.
