Cooper was left on his own when his former owner's lost him during a fireworks display. He became spooked and ran off. Some kind folks found him but Copper was so very skittish it was difficult for the folks to catch him. They fed and made sure he had water, but never could get too close because poor Cooper was scared.
Eventually over time they gained his trust to see an ID tag and called the info on it. The former owner's lived Downstate and couldn't come back for Copper so they decided to give him up. The family who found him kept Copper for awhile but found that they really couldn't keep another dog so they did the best thing they could be bringing Cooper to the shelter.
Copper is still a shy in new situations but is really coming right along with the help of our great staff and volunteers. He loves to lay on his Kuranda raised dog bed and he feels so good to be by people who care for him. He has a sweet and low key greeting, is well-mannered, prefers people over play, and has great leash manners. Cooper is now wagging his tail and holding his head up when he goes for his walks. He's a wonderful dog who will make a loyal and loving companion. If you are longing for a quiet, laid back boy, who really deserves a second chance, please consider adopting Cooper.
