My Story

Cora Age: 3 Gender: Female Breed: American Pitbull Terrier Weight: 48lbs Crate Trained: Working on it Potty Trained: Yes Dog Friendly: Needs more training and slow introductions Cat Friendly: Unknown Kid friendly: Kids 14+ Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: low to medium   If you are looking for a sweet, gentle lapdog in a 50 lb body, Cora is your girl! She likes to lay across you for cuddles with her head on your chest and will try to squish herself into any tiny space next to you. Cora looks sleepy all the time, because she is. She is low to medium energy and tires quickly after short play and training sessions. She also snores like a 70 year old man. She is the perfect companion for someone who works from home because she will nap while you work and self-entertain with toys. Cora rarely barks but when she does she is so polite that she literally uses a low volume “indoor” bark and a louder“outdoor” bark. Her nickname is Dizzy Devil because of her adorable zoomies, where she spins with her butt low to ground like a little tornado with a huge grin on her face!   This sweet girl loves all people big and small and greets them warmly both in and outside of  the house. She tends to jump in excitement when visitors come over because she is just so happy to see them. She redirects well and is learning not to jump. Due to her strength, she would do best in a household with older children 14+ who can handle the occasional body slam.   Cora is potty trained, can hold it for 8+ hours overnight and sleeps well throughout the night without issue. She may have the occasional accident when she becomes overexcited during play. Providing her with a calm environment and avoiding roughhouse playing helps a lot.     Cora is very interested in other dogs and wants to greet every dog she sees. This can result in her becoming frustrated while on leash as she thinks all people and dogs should be her besties. She takes it personally when other dogs bark at her on walks. We did have one impromptu greeting with an off-leash dog that came running out of a yard and she remained calm and allowed sniffing but was still a little unsure. For now it is probably best to continue her work on leash manners and work up to slow intro greetings with other dogs.   Cora seems mostly perplexed by cats and squirrels. She will chase them if given the opportunity but redirecting her from small animals on walks has been easy.   This girl absolutely loves to sit on the balcony enjoying the sun, smelling the air and listening to the sounds! She would really benefit from the reprieve of a small yard or a suburban setting as a place to continue her training without the constant distractions of a city street.   Cora is working on her crate training. She doesn’t like the crate when the door is closed and can become anxious and have accidents inside it as a result. She is not destructive in the house and has been allowed to free roam without issue. She does best in a gated area with a few potty pads when left alone.  She will let you know when she needs to go out, by going to the door.   Cora is an absolute sweetheart, a gentle and intelligent girl who learns quickly, is eager to please and has so much love and snuggles to give. She’s had a rough past as a cruelty confiscate case from CACC but holds no grudges and approaches life with a laid back demeanor and happy smile! Bonus: she loves wearing clothes and comes with her own wardrobe!
