My Story

Cosmo is an amazingly resilient, sweet, affectionate boy who managed to maintain his wonderful personality despite his obvious long-term neglect. This 2-3 year old Bichon (mix?) weighs about 15 pounds and gets along great with other dogs and kids. When he arrived at the shelter in the US, he looked like he had never been groomed in his life! Cosmo is very responsive and eager to please and extremely well-behaved. He’s not a barker and has a nice mellow temperment. His beautiful coat will grow back in no time and he’ll certainly be one handsome guy. Cosmo will make a great companion and wonderful addition to any family. Cosmo has just arrived in Calgary from LA on August 12th!

Happy Tail! Here's an update from Cosmo's adoptive family!

Cosmo is now known as Quinn and he's doing fantastic! We all absolutely love him to bits, he's fit right in. I'm not sure if he was somehow taught, but he's house trained which is unbelievably nice! I was actually able to locate the person who pulled him from the shelter in Los Angeles which was very full circle; it sounds like he was a stray which would explain why he seems to love all types of human food, especially cheese and eggs. He's been a good eater, although he does seem to be always more interested in what we're eating - not too surprising! From Day One, he was hopping on the couch and beds like he owned them and now expects to be able to lie on a pillow and stretch out on his back.

He loves his car rides and LOVES the off leash park we take him too. We try to get Quinn to the park at least once a week as he seems to enjoy it so much, but he also gets his daily walks around the neighbourhood. We don't let him off leash too much yet as we're still working on getting him to respond to his name (training classes start next month) but he always wants to play with the other dogs and smell out every tree around. We've had quite a few people stop to ask about him; general consensus seems to be that he's most likely a bichon/poodle cross. We've told everyone where we got him from and it definitely seems like everyone has a soft spot for the rescues! Lots of people at the park have rescues so that's really cool to hear.

Other than that, we're just letting his hair grow out a bit as he's quite a looker! He has some pretty amusing quirks - he'll tip his food dish when he wants more, he'll hurl his squeaky toys around the room, he gets that bichon buzz where he just runs around, doing laps outside and when he wants attention, he'll just come up, rest his paws on you and shove his head into your hands. Cute! I've included some pictures; he is pretty attached to my mom and has been from the get go which is great as he was meant for her especially. We are thrilled with him and so pleased we got him. He had a fantastic foster dad in Rod, who we keep in touch with, and I know that being with him instead of in a kennel helped him adjust so well.
