My Story

Meet Cruz! Cruz is approx 4 year old, 30 pound male JRT mixed dog who was rescued from a hoarding situation out of Pasco county with 26 other animals - he is very shy and probably considered feral. Cruz is NOT aggressive at all, in fact- he is very scared and needs to learn how to be a loving member of a family. He never barks or makes any noise to be honest. He loves to go on leash walks and is a totally different dog while out on a walk. He frolicks and plays, and loves to run around! I often walk him on a 20 foot leash to give him room to run around and play. Cruz is overall a very low maintenance dog- but what has not attracted him a home yet is that he is not affectionate with people or other dogs. He is fine around other animals, it is just that his primary emotion is fear and so he just needs to overcome that fear response and understand that he is safe and it is ok to not have to hide from people. We are in need of a special committed foster to adopt or foster home with someone able to help with working with him to become more of a loving member of a family. . Cruz currently lives in a home with other dogs but prefers to hide under the bed, or in his crate and does not interact with the other dogs unless on a leash walk. He will not walk around in the fenced in back yard unless on a leash- and if taken outside of the fenced back yard, he will try to find a way to get back into the house into his safe place The ideal home for Cruz is with someone who has a secured tall, fenced in yard so that he can work on being off leash. He also needs a home with someone who has the time and patience to work with him! Please, no rambunctious children as he is a very shy and a scared dog. Cruz is 100% potty trained and walks on a leash to potty outside and for exercise- and loves his walks. Cruz is one of the longest residents of the rescue. He and Chenoa are both long term residents, not because of anything they have done. They really need a foster who has the time to work with them and does not expect huge changes in 3 weeks. A foster to adopt home or even a foster home with people who have the time to work with him would be best. Please do not apply if you cannot seriously commit to giving him the time and security he needs to progress as a loved member of a family so he can live his best life. His current foster mom is the founder of the rescue, who works 8-10 hours a day out of the home, and runs the rescue.I have done the best I can with having 8-10 dogs in my home and working a FT job and running a rescue - there is nothing wrong with him at all. He just needs a chance from a committed person and unfortunately other than the rescue- that person has not found him yet, but I know there is someone out there for him. Vet references and home visit required. To apply to foster/ foster to adopt: please fill out an application: www.muttsnmore.org. Adoption fee is eligible to be waived to a foster to adopt home that works with the rescue to help him live his best life! ?
