My Story

WEEKEND ADOPTION EVENTS: SATURDAY, AUGUST 3 from 12-3PM: Dog Adoption Event at OLATHE PETSMART at 119th & Strang Line with volunteers from Heart of America Humane Society. We’ll have several dogs there looking for homes! SATURDAY, AUGUST 3 from 10-2PM: We’ll be bringing some adoptable dogs to The First Responder Back to School Bash at Pierson Park from 10-2pm. Pierson Park is at 1800 S 55th St in Kansas City, Kansas 66106. WEEKEND SHELTER HOURS: SATURDAY, AUGUST 3: OPEN 10AM - 3PM — NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY! SUNDAY, AUGUST 4 : OPEN 10AM - 3PM — NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY! DIPPER & MABEL are a brother and sister duo who would love to find a home together. They are 2 year old Belgium Malinois/Great Pyrenees mixes and they each weigh 70 lbs. They are gorgeous! Dipper and Mabel are very bonded and have been through a lot together. Their person was evicted, and abandoned them at a cemetery. They were running loose and scared for 2 months before we had success in trapping them. They were terrified and traumatized when they arrived-- it was so sad. They are both doing much better now, but they are still timid with new things. Dipper is the most timid, but he’s much braver when he’s with his more confident sister and he follows her everywhere. They both love being out in the yard and running and playing. They would love to have a fenced yard to play in and explore. Mabel loves the water! Both of them need work on leash walking-- the leash scares them. But they’ve already made a lot of progress. Dipper and Mabel are both extremely sweet natured, and they will be wonderful companions to the person who is patient and helps them along with socialization and helps them feel safe and loved. ADOPTING A PET We are open for meet and greet adoptions at our shelter on weekends. No appointment is necessary for weekend adoptions. Our weekend hours vary and we also have satellite adoption events every weekend. Please visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/FriendsofKCKAS/ for more info about weekend adoption hours, events and available pets. We are also open Monday through Friday by appointment. Please contact us by phone at 913-321-1445 or by email at [email protected] to schedule your appointment during weekdays. If you have a dog or children we ask that you bring them with you to meet our dogs to make sure it is a good match. Our dogs have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and tested for heartworms (if 7 months or older). FOSTERING Can’t commit to adoption but still want to help us save lives?
