She loves being petted and cuddled, soaking up all the affection she can get. Dixie is very friendly with other dogs, maintaining a calm demeanor that makes her easy to get along with. You'll know she's chosen you as a friend when she runs up to you and gives a silly little bull kick with her back legs, an endearing gesture that will melt anyone's heart. She also likes to give a friendly little growl to let you know that she hears you and agrees with what you're saying, especially if you're telling her how pretty she is. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
