My Story
Poor Dixon - being totally misrepresented and misunderstood has caused him to be stuck in boarding for 2 years!
Saved from euthanasia in a NC shelter, this gorgeous 60 lb. boy went to a temporary foster home and then a 3-month stint in board-and-train where this very intelligent dog mastered his commands (focus, leave it/take it, sit, down, place, kennel-up, heel, etc.). But because we were told that he wasn’t good with other animals and that he needed a female adopter because he was dominant toward men, we couldn’t find a foster or adopter for him and he ended up going to in-home boarding where he spends most of his time in a crate. :,-(
Fast forward two years and lo and behold, it turns out that he’s a tually GREAT with other dogs - including small dogs and even cats! - and does not show any kind of prey drive to birds, squirrels, etc. In fact, it seems he really just wants to play with everything and everyone. We have tons of videos of him playing with dogs of all sizes and cat test videos, too!
And, his dominance behaviors are consistent with the traits of the breed and are easily managed/controlled by an experienced, strong leader. Like many dogs of his breed mix, he just needs to be reminded of his place (that he is *not* in charge). This makes him an *excellent* guard dog because he’s bad-ass when he needs to be - no one that is unwelcome will be messing with you (really he’s just a big teddy bear but strangers won’t know that).
Dixon NEEDS a home with at least one other playful, high-energy, and tolerant dog who he can run, play, and wrestle with in a fenced yard. He is *super intelligent* and highly food motivated; he definitely needs mental stimulation and enrichment activities such as treat-dispensing balls and other food puzzles. He would be great on the farm and with a job to do such as protecting the property/family. He loves to play fetch, chase balls and frisbees, and he absolutely loves the snow and doesn’t even mind the rain.
If you may be the family that he’s been waiting for two years to finally get him out of boarding, please TEXT / CALL Aly at 732-604-0625.
