Hi everybody!
My name is Donny and I'm a 9 month old Bernese Mountain dog/ Lab mix. My life started a bit un-lucky... The human parents were not exactly prepared for the new addition to the family, so me and my siblings ended up in the La Porte pound. Scouts Honor came to my rescue from the deadly needle and now I'm safe in a foster home. However, I'm still searching for my forever best friend... Are you my perfect match?!
It is true what it says on-line about me:
1. 'The Berner's outstanding physical feature is its coat, a jet black, thick, luxurious coat with bright white and rich rust markings. Straight or slightly wavy, the coat has a natural sheen that adds to its beauty.' Even after months in the shelter with not exactly the best food... my coat is pretty, bright and shiny like nothing you have ever seen! My foster momma say that with my white socks and chest, symmetrical brown markings and black floppy ears, I'm the pretties lab ever...!
2. 'The Berner's temperament shines as brightly as his coat. This is a people-loving dog who is also a willing worker.' Now that I'm actually safe I'm the happiest boy on the planet! I love my foster sister, my foster mom and all her neighbors, there kids and there doggies too. However sometimes I'm a little bit scared of human males, but only at first until I know they are nice. When I know the people that come to greet me, I can get very exited and even though I'm fully house trained I can have little accidents. I'm still young and my Dr is telling me that when I get older and more mature this will go away. The nice part of me being so young is that I still give lots of puppy kisses every day!
3. 'Because he is so willing to please, the Berner responds to the gentlest of training methods. No yelling or yanking or scolding needed - just show him what to do, reward when he does it, and practice to make the behavior an ingrained pattern.' It is true! I walk very nicely on the leach with out pulling and have learned to run beside the bike. When we go for walks in the park I can run of leach and when I'm called I come back right away. OK OK, maybe I sneak over to just quickly say hi to another doggie, but then I'll be right back! ;-) I'm FULLY house trained and I love my BIG crate. When there is a lot going on in the house I go and sleep in my crate with the door open, cause I feel really safe in there. I also like eating my food in the crate so that I can eat peacefully with out the other doggies taking my food, cause I like to eat in my own speed. I enjoy interacting and training and I would like for my new owner to join me for some FREE sessions of training class with my personal trainer Holly. It will help us both understand each other better and it is so much FUN!
4. 'Berners may suffer in hot climates; dogs spending time outdoors in summer must have shade cover and access to fresh water at all times.' This is true too... I love to go for walks and runs, but really need to be an in-door dog in Houston. When the sun is shining on my black coat it gets HOT! When we go biking I LOVE to stop for a quick bath in the bayou and fortunately I'm allowed to because I'm not difficult to bath back home in the tub either.
Some additional facts:
I weigh about 50bl right now but my foster mom predict I might weigh ~60bl as a grown up. I'm neutered, micro-chipped, got all my shots, heart worm negative, crate trained, leach trained, biking trained and did I mentioned that I'm HOUSE TRAINED too?!! Is there any other training I can sign up for?! :-)
Would like to know more about me or perhaps come and meet me???
Please contact my foster mom Victoria at

See you soon! Cheers, Donny
