My Story

Duckie is friendly and outgoing 4 - 4.5 month old terrier mix that weighs 16 lbs. She is estimated to be around 40-45 lbs once she is full grown. This social butterfly loves everyone she meets, and enjoys meeting new human and doggy friends. She doesn't have a shy bone in her body and is very confident when she is in new places. She is an adventurous little girl that loves to be outside chasing leaves blowing in the wind or following butterflies around the yard. One of her favorite things to do is watch the squirrels play in the trees, although she does get bummed out that they won't come down to play with her. After Duckie finishes her outdoor playtime, she loves to curl up on the couch to watch tv with her humans or watch her foster mom's kids play video games. This girl never passes up a chance to cuddle up with her humans and even has used those sad puppy dog eyes to convince them to let her sleep in bed with them a few times, too. Duckie is an all around good girl that loves to learn new things and explore new environments, so she would be perfect for a family that loves the outdoors and wants a dog that they can take on all their fun adventures. Duckie is low to medium energy so she can be best described as the perfect mix of active and laid back. She has short spurts of energy that are easily burned with short exercise activities, like playtime in the backyard with her toys or with the resident dogs in her foster home. She is also starting to enjoy taking leisurely walks around the neighborhood as she is working on her leash training, and would eventually love to go on hikes or walks on nature trails. As long as her human wants to continue playing or walking, she is happy to join. Once she is back inside, she will find a comfy spot to play with her toys or curl up with a bully stick to relax before nap time. She is currently teething, so the more toys and chews she has to choose from, the better! Duckie would be a great companion for someone who works from home because she is very quiet and calm when indoors, and she would love to have a dog bed right next to your desk so she can hang out while you work. Duckie is dog and kid friendly. She is currently in a foster home with both kids and dogs. The kids range in age from age from 4 to 16, and she loves them all! She loves to follow them around and watch everything they're doing around the house, and waits patiently for them to sit down so she can curl up next to them for cuddles and belly rubs. Her sweet, silly temperament would be perfect for a family with kids and she would love to have little humans to play and cuddle with. The more hands for belly rubs, the better! She also has both a large dog and small dog in her foster home that she loves to play with. She does great respecting their boundaries when they're done with her silly puppy games and will run off to find her toys to play with when they don't want to play with her anymore. She has not yet been introduced to cats, but this sweet girl has such a submissive temperament that she would be able to acclimate into a home with a dog-friendly cat with proper introductions. Duckie is very treat motivated, gentle with taking food, and loves to please her humans, so she would be a great pup to involve the kids with when training her. She's already mastered the "sit" command for her favorite treats and is learning more! Duckie is potty trained and kennel trained, and has almost mastered leash training. With a consistent schedule and frequent potty breaks she will not have an accident in the house, but will use a potty pad by the back door if she has to go and isn't let outside in time. She will stand by the back door to signal that he needs to potty, but will not alert by barking or crying so you have to watch to see if she's heading towards the back door for a potty break. She will sleep in a kennel and prefers it to be in the same room as her human at night, but she would really love to sleep in bed so that she can get in some extra cuddles while you sleep. She can even make it the whole night without needing to get up for a potty break so she will stay in bed with you until you're ready to get up in the morning. She is not destructive when left out of the kennel as long as she has her favorite toys or chews to entertain her for short periods, but she will need to be kenneled for longer periods while her humans are out of the home because she is still a teething puppy. Duckie's ideal home would be a home with a backyard that she can run around in and sunbathe on sunny days. She would also do well in an apartment or townhome as well just as long as she gets frequent potty breaks and play time. For the most part she's a pretty quiet little pup. She would love to have another friendly, playful dog in her forever home, but she is perfectly fine being the only dog as long as she gets to have puppy play dates and her human works primarily from home or on a hybrid schedule. She would do great with kids of all ages, and would love some little humans to play and share her sweet puppy kisses with. If you are interested in adopting Duckie, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application. Duckie is in a foster home in South Texas and will be transported once adopted. She is currently too young to be spayed, so there will be a $200 REFUNDABLE spay deposit on top of her adoption/transport fees. The spay deposit will be paid directly to the adopter's vet to go towards her spay procedure once scheduled. TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back. Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. The total cost to adopt is $830, which includes a $400 adoption fee, a $230 transport fee, and a $200 REFUNDABLE spay deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
