My Story

Meet Duke, our lovable Great Dane mix with a heart as big as his paws! Just like his namesake, Duke is a fun-loving, doofy boy who brings joy and laughter wherever he goes.He adores giving and receiving affection, making him a perfect companion for cuddles and playtime alike.Despite his size, Duke is impressively easy to walk on a leash. Duke is currently in foster care. He loves both of the adults in the household equally and is excited to get attention from either. We haven't seen him around kids, but due to his size and exuberance we think he'd knock little ones down. He's a leaner! Once he gives his initial greetings he loves to lean on you to show his affection. He lives with 4 other dogs and gets along fine with everyone. The smallest dog in his foster home is 40 pounds and the two of them love to wrestle and play chase. Duke has good manners in his foster home and is a medium energy guy. Once he has some time in the morning to play and get his energy out, he's ready for naps. He's learning that even though the counters are at nose height for him, that's not an invitation to steal anything off of them! He's very receptive to verbal correction and wants to please his people. He has not had any potty accidents in his foster home. We always suggest close monitoring and putting new dogs on a potty schedule until they acclimate to their new environment to make sure they are set up for success. Duke weighted 100 pounds when he first entered our shelter. He was soon adopted but returned for chasing kitties. Being returned to the shelter was very stressful for him and we noticed him losing weight and having bouts of vomiting. Our vet staff did emergency surgery gastropexy (to prevent bloat) and he is on the mend, and slowly putting on weight. If you're looking for a gentle giant who will fill your life with love and laughter, Duke is your boy. Come meet Duke and let him show you how wonderful life with a big, sweet, and goofy friend can be! Check out Duke with his doggy foster sister: Duke is in foster care.
