Essay is a well socialized, friendly, affectionate, loving dog! So many dogs enter our program with behavioral issues that it's always a delight when we have one that has no real issues at all! Essay gets along with other dogs, is mellow in the house, playful in the yard, loves to go for walks, rides nicely in the car... Who could ask for anything more?

Essay has not been tested with children. We think she would probably be okay with children over six years of age. She is a gentle dog. Essay has met cats and ignores them. Essay would be great in an active adult home that will take her for walks and keep her social calendar full! She'd love trips to Panera for breakfast, a walk on the greenway or a hike in one of the many nearby parks!

Essay was transferred to HEART from a NC shelter because she had tested high positive for heartworms. The shelter does not treat for heartworms and asked us to take her. She has finished her treatment and is ready to find a new home. Essay is a reminder to everyone that dogs must be on heartworm preventatives all their lives. It is easier and less expensive to prevent this deadly parasite than it is to treat!
