Faris is now available for Foster to Adopt!
***Please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form***
As a foster-to-adopt family, you will have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found.
During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.
Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.

Meet Faris! Faris has been in foster care for over a year with little adoption interest and we are hoping that ends soon. While he can start off looking a bit serious, Faris is an adorable cuddle bug with his trusted people and an absolute mooch when he knows there are treats to be had.
Faris loves his daily activities, especially his walks, play time with his canine foster sis, sunbathing, and, of course, meal time. He will nudge your hand for pets and gets a wild helicopter tail when he’s excited. When he knows it is time to go out, he will get adorable zoomies including fantastic spin moves.
Faris is nervous around new people and dogs and takes time to warm up. Once he does though he is the silliest, bounciest pup, with the sweetest soul. He is very much a Velcro dog and wants to be with his family. He greets his fosters with goofy dances and demands a few minutes of pets whenever they come home. Faris does best meeting new people out on his walks. He is slowly learning that new people are not a threat. In the home, he will usually stay in his safe space if new people are around for the first few visits.
Faris is medium energy and gets a short walk in the morning, play time in the backyard with his foster sister, and a longer walk in the evening. He also gets his meals on a snuffle mat. Faris is leash reactive to dogs, people, and bikes however this is easily managed by stepping into the nearest driveway or crossing the street to give him space.
Faris stays home during the work day with his canine foster sister. He is not crated and will quietly wait for his fosters to return as long as his foster sister is around. If he is left without his fosters or his foster sister he will cry but eventually calms down especially if he has had exercise and attention before being left. Faris sleeps through the night without issue.
Faris knows lots of basic commands and is food motivated and eager to learn. Since being in foster care, Faris completed a professional training program and loved it! His instructor described him as one of the quickest learners they have ever worked with. Faris thrives when engaged in training and it helps tire him out. He would love a forever family with an interest in continuing his training. He is fully potty trained.
Faris needs slow introductions to new dogs and will give signals if he needs more space. It usually only takes a few minutes before he can walk next to a new dog. Once he’s met the dog, he loves playing especially off leash. He would do best in a home with another dog as he is more confident with a canine companion. Faris is looking for a cat-free home.
Faris has not met any children since being in foster care. The excitable energy of young kids would be too much for him but he could do well in a home with dog savvy children aged 12+ who can ignore him while he warms up.
Faris would do best joining a home with a confident dog who could show him the ropes. He would appreciate a safe space where he can hang out undisturbed if there are new people around or if he needs a little break. He is happy to chill in the house with his family or venture out for new walks and adventures. Most of all he just wants to spend time with his family getting pets and cuddles. Faris had a very rough start to life and has come such a long way, he really just needs the right family to take a chance on him and let them soak up all his love.
Prior to coming into care, Faris tested positive for Ehrlichia and Anaplasma, which are tick-borne infections and are not contagious. A CBC was performed to see if there is an active infection. Faris' CBC came back indicating that there is no active infection. It is recommended that Ehrlichia positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor and that pre-op blood work including a CBC test and platelet count be performed before any surgeries or dental extractions.
Faris is currently on a behaviour modification medication called Clomicalm which he takes daily to assist with his anxiety. He takes a dose twice daily and it has been helping him. The monthly cost of the medication is approximately $183.
To ensure Faris is set up for life-long success, his new family will be required to sign up for and complete 3 training classes with an approved, positive-reinforcement based professional trainer (proof required). Details to be discussed upon application.
