My Story

Finn is a tiny 8 year old Shih Tzu mix, weighing 11 pounds. He came to WI from Texas in mid-March--taken from a horrible situation. The owners were charged with animal abuse and neglect. Despite severe malnourishment, Finn is adorable and learning new life skills every day Finn has hair loss. He is on a daily prescription medication (Vetoryl) and his hair is growing back on his body. However, he may not ever get any on his ears. He is mostly blind and deaf. He does well with avoiding obstacles-- in the yard and the house. He is a quiet couch potato and much prefers indoors. He is learning to climb stairs despite his weak legs and hips. He is getting stronger every day. Finn receives daily eye treatments, omega-3 oil, and a vitamin mixed with his food. Finn came into New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue together with Kip, a 5 year old Shih Tzu mix. If you're interested in a pair of dogs, Finn and Kip are friends but ok going separately as well. Finn's ideal home has someone who is home often and has an enclosed yard. Small children would not be a good fit. Dog friendly small dogs and cats would be fine. Finn doesn't know how to play yet but may learn given time or modeling from a sibling dog. They are potty trained on a schedule. However, if they are in their kennel and need to go out, they will bark to let the foster know. All rescue dogs need potty training in their new homes. New Beginnings is a nonprofit, volunteer organization. They do not have a shelter--any dogs they take in are always fostered by volunteers. There is an initial $25 application fee to be approved for adoption, and an additional fee for final adoption, $350 for Finn. Finn is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, negative heartworm test and clear fecal. Fostered in Green Bay WI.
