My Story

PLEASE SHARE. FOSTER NEEDS A FOSTER. Prefer adopting or fostering a boy or a girl? We have both! Meet the Boys, Foster and Rio (the girls will have their own posts.) One of our area shelters called as they received 5 beagles within a few days and being beyond full they sought our help. We had just sent a few to our Northern chapter so we had a bit of a break. Didn’t last long and hasn’t got better last crazy overwhelming year. Foster, he has glorious ears, is around 3 years old, ~30 lbs Rio, he is the more social butterfly of the pair, 2-4 years, ~ 27 lbs Both came in as strays. Both showing the signs of a bad hunter owner with poor skin condition, thin, bad food history showing in their plaque covered teeth. Sadly so much of what we see is preventable with better food, even minimal vet care and better conditions/home care. These two boys had teeth cleanings at their neuter on 6/6/24 courtesy of the fantastic staff at The Gentle Doctor of East Tennessee in Halls. They are both good with other dogs. Rio has had a negative skin scrape so we are hoping the flea meds and medicated baths help him heal fast. They have had their first medicated bath and volunteer Christine comes today to help with bath two. Both these boys are clean in their kennels overnight, such good manners. Both will need basic house training and continued leash work in their new homes but at their age and temperament a strict schedule and kennel training will work wonders. They are both fast learners and want to please. Rio is the more social of the pair, responds better to calling and comes running happily. Foster wants the attention but is a bit hesitant until he gets those awesome scratches. Both will follow the lead of a trusting dog and finding an adopter or foster to give them that independence to grow separately. Foster is a bit too dependent on Rio being the life of the party so we would love am to see how they adapt separated. We would consider a pair adoption to the right home for these two boys that can give individual time along with pair time and training. We just know how hard it is to find placement for two beagles. So please SHARE these babies. They need homes, they would jump at the chance to be fostered near Knoxville TN. Www.sosbeagles.org
