Goldie

Goldie, perhaps not the most original of names however, it just seemed to fit. This long-haired medium size dog with a gold and white coat and eyes of brilliant blue makes her irresistible. Though she is the essence of hug-ability, she is not quite ready for that. Since last November she has lived in the woods across from a small housing development. She has made it her practice to visit the houses in the neighborhood for food while avoiding all efforts to capture her. One family went so far as to put a doghouse out for her in their front yard. Through freezing weather of a hard winter, the endless rains of spring and the blistering heat of an early Texas summer she maintained her independence. Then one extremely stormy day one family left their door open while she sheltered on the porch. The thunder and lightning proved too much, and she entered the house to find shelter in an obscure corner. As has become the norm, TIRR Rescue received a call that the phantom little dog was confined. We responded and after extraction from under the furniture she offered no resistance as we carried her to our van and to our kennel. She has been here for several weeks now and is slowly warming up to the presence of humans in her life. She shows no panic or fear though a leash still causes her concern. We give her space with as much human contact as she is willing to accept. The trip to the vet was extremely traumatic and it took several days for her to forgive us. This little dog will make an outstanding companion for one who is patient and respectful of her space. She has never offered any trace of hostility when handled and I have to believe that once in a home she will be willing to sit in your lap or lay at your feet for hours.
