My Story

Meet Gomez! We estimate Gomez to be around 3 years old. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and will leave HSoP with a microchip containing his new owner's information. He arrived at HSoP as a stray, so we unfortunately don't know much about his background. Gomez is a very nervous boy - so much so that he was nicknamed "Sketchy Gomez" for his first few weeks here. He's incredibly unsure of people. It takes Gomez a good chunk of time to truly build up trust in someone new, and unfortunately, that trust can go away almost immediately if he gets startled. One thing that startles him even by mistake is quick movements. He doesn't like when people reach out to touch him quickly, or get their hands too close to his face without warning. Instead, Gomez should approach you on his own to feel safe and comfortable with affection. It takes Gomez around 15-20 minutes to begin letting his guard down around someone new. Treats and an excellent way to bridge the gap between stranger and friend, and Gomez is great about taking them gently! He even knows how to sit and shake paws when asked. Once he's comfortable with you, Gomez is much more willing to let his personality shine. He LOVES toys! Not so much that he likes *playing* with toys, but Gomez truly and completely enjoys carrying his stuffies around in his mouth with pride. It's common to see Gomez sitting happily inside the kennels - toy in his mouth, tail wagging, with a big smile in his eyes. Gomez is a very sweet and gentle boy, but something about his past life has made him nervous to let that side of him show. Gomez would likely benefit from having several meetings with his future family, so he can have the time to familiarize himself with you before having his environment change so much. Given his nervous demeanor and "sketchiness", we recommend that Gomez go to a home with no children. He would do well in a calm and quiet adult-only home, where he can relax during the day and get plenty of attention at night. Gomez would likely blossom in a home environment, and we can't wait for that day to come! If you're interested in getting to know Gomez, please visit him at HSoP between 2:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday (no appointments needed). We don't know how he does with other pets, but we offer a seven-day foster period with each adoption and require all dogs to meet any canines in the home prior to leaving HSoP. Gomez's adoption fee is $135.
