Come meet Gumdrop and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (Aug. 4th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Alexandria (3351 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name: Gumdrop Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 1 year 7 months as of July 2024 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 51 lbs Gets Along With: Gumdrop does wonderfully with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested. We would be cautious placing her in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise. Currently Living at: Texas shelter; needs a foster or adopter in the DC area to get up here! Special adoption considerations: Gumdrop has spent a lot of her youth in the shelter and hasn't had enough experience in the outside world, so she's a little shy. She needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog who will show her the ropes. We would be cautious placing her in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant! Gumdrop is Looking For: Her forever family! Gumdrop and her sister Jellybean have enjoyed being together but now they're ready to split up and get their forever homes! Gumdrop is such a sweetie - she loves, loves, loves people and loves other dogs! She wants nothing more than to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog, but just hasn't had enough experience in various settings yet- she needs extra patient and loving adopters who will help socialize her to the outside world at her pace, and a welcoming dog who will teach her how to dog! (She and Jellybean are not bonded and will go to separate homes.) Obedience school will help build her braves as well. Gumdrop participated in a pajama party with Lucky Dog volunteers during a trip to the shelter and showed how sweet and wonderful she is.
