Honey is an irresistible little dog with a beautiful but improbable appearance.
A Sheltie mix, Honey has the beautiful, refined head and expressive face of a Sheltie, and the lithe, fawn-like legs and tiny feet of a Sheltie; her intent, open and loving eye contact and deep intelligence are clearly Sheltie, as are her loving disposition, readiness to give kisses, and beautiful, agile movement.
The clues to Honey's non-Sheltie breeding components lie in her coat, which is short; her ears, which are enormous; and her body, which is pleasantly plump. Honey's immense ears struggle to prick at attention, but only one makes it up - the other flops at half-mast. She is a wonderful composite of extreme canine physical attributes, like a unique Mr. Potato Head.
But if Honey's physical components seem at odds, there is nothing mis-matched in her endearing nature. Wonderfully bright and keenly alert, she darts about (on her tiny feet) bursting with love, ready to cover you with kisses, and eager to cuddle.
Honey is ardent in her affections, and she loves to be held and handled; she especially delights in having her little face smoothed.
She herds her toys about with the passion and grace of a dog from the Highlands, and her desire to please is unparalleled. She is open in her love for other dogs, and would be a wonderful companion/playmate for an existing family dog, as well as a champion (and tireless) exercising coach for any dog who is spending too much time on the couch.
She would also be a an ideal playmate for older children, or humans who seek a partner for frisbee or flyball - indeed, her focus and her touching desire to please make Honey a very trainable little dog, and her high functioning personality, aptitude, and athleticism make her a promising candidate for any number of pastimes.
Currently she is fluent in the commands "sit", "crate", and "give kisses". It is obvious from her girth that she has mastered "treat".
Honey was surrendered by a couple who were moving and could not take her along. In their home, Honey was trained to relieve herself on a deck, and she is working hard to understand that it is alright to use the yard. This is her only training issue, and it is resolving well in foster care. Otherwise, Honey is a dog who has been much loved; her loyalty is great; and her greatest need is an opportunity to bond with committed adopter(s), and to once again have the important job of bringing joy and devotion to a home of her very own.
