My Story

Jacob is a serious minded German Shepherd Dog who wants to make sure all under his watch is safe. Jacob just naturally patrols the yard. He is not a barker however he will let you know if there is something you need to be aware of.
Jacob has recovered from his heartworm treatment and he is healthy and fit having now had several months of high quality food, fresh water and plenty of exercise.
Jacob has become comfortable in the house and he is a gentle loving companion. He is easy on lead and is a good traveler. Jacob enjoys outings in the car. Jacob does well with most other dogs.
Jacob is submissive to his person, yet he has the heart of a warrior. There is no doubt that this wonderful dog would give his life for his person or family. Jacob has a very special personality combination blended into one great German Shepherd Dog!

Jacob is listed as needing to go to a home with No Cats and yet more than a few folks have asked about Jacob who have cats.
Jacob spent 8 months wondering and lingering around the property of another rescue in the country of upper SC. Though they put food out for him these 8 months, I wonder if he was also hunting to supplement his intake of food. Therefore, I do not want to risk the life of anyone's cat so please do not ask about Jacob if you have a cat.

Jacob's Story:
Jacob is a handsome 4 year old German Shepherd male with a coat of many colors. He has a Black "saddle" with Silver and rich Reds and Creams in his coat. Jacob has a beautiful gait when walking and running.

Jacob is a dog with a Divine appointment to keep. He had been lingering on the country property of another rescue in upper SC for 8 Months. Through the months Jacob would not come near the humans who had befriended him by putting out food each day. As the months went by, gradually Jacob came closer in as his food was being placed closer to the barn. After 8 months Jacob was eating in the barn. The next step was to put his food in a stall and hope he would go in after it....Jacob went into the stall and ate his food. the door to the stall was closed behind him.
This same day some dogs were being brought down to CSR. There were no plans to bring this GSD. However, when it was time to leave, Jacob, the dog who had been lingering for 8 months climbed into the truck for the trip down!

It was a surprise to all of us that a GSD had come with the other dogs. I was called and went over to meet him. I spent an hour locked inside a large crate bonding with Jacob on the evening he arrived. Jacob was willing to come with me to another home in the country.

At first Jacob was afraid to walk on the smooth floors in the house. He soon became very comfortable in the house and especially enjoys sleeping in Mom's room. Even though Jacob had been fed during his months of roaming he was still thin and his coat lacked luster. He has filled out with lots of good food, water, fresh air and running and playing with several other GSDs.

Jacob enjoys riding in the car and loves to go for walks on lead. When called to "Come", Jacob runs and stops right in front of me in a sit with his face turned up looking into my eyes. He preforms a perfect "Formal Recall".
Jacob enjoys the company of other dogs and there are many games of chase played. He is equally comfortable with both men and women. Jacob has a sweet gentle submissive spirit about him. He loves to be petted, brushed and just be near his people. Jacob will take his place near the table but will not beg for food.

Shortly after Jacob arrived an appointment was made for him to be neutered, have his rabies vaccination and be heartworm tested. We had noticed that Jacob seemed to be working hard to breath even when he was at rest. His heart was also working harder than what was normal. He acted tired most of the time.
The day of Jacob's medical appointment, "Doc" was asked to do the heartworm test first and if needed to wait on the neuter surgery and begin the heartworm treatment. Jacob tested a strong positive for heartworms and his surgery was canceled and the 2 day heartworm treatment begun.

It was amazing to see the difference in Jacob's breathing pattern and his general increase in strength and activity within a few days after part 1 of his heartworm treatment. Jacob was feeling good now. His recovery period went well as did the oral part 2 of the heartworm treatment. Jacob now has an appointment scheduled to be neutered then he will be ready for adoption.

Jacob is now a healthy dog who should have a happy healthy life as a member of his new family. Jacob will only be adopted into a family where he will be a valued inside member. Jacob's new family must know and love the German Shepherd Dog.

UPDATE: 11/29/07
Jacob has been neutered and is now ready to be adopted. He is a fine healthy dog now who will be a wonderful addition for his family.
