My Story

From time to time, Jake has heard humans say "TGIF" and then he found out that meant "Thank goodness it's Friday." That didn't really mean much to Jake because when you are a dog who lives in a kennel, almost every day is just like any other day. Until now! Jake was invited to participate in The Total Dog's swim hydrotherapy session on Friday and he loved it!! Absolutely loved it!! As soon as the four paws hit the floor (or more accurately, hit the water), Jake was ready to go. Throw a tennis ball to the other end of the pool and he'd swim to get it. Throw a squeaky toy to the other end of the pool and he'd swim to get it. Back and forth for thirty minutes. When his session ended, he was so excited and so happy, ready to play with anyone who might come along. We know you'd like to know more about Jake so here goes. His owner passed away a number of months ago and Jake moved in with his owner's son. Unfortunately for Jake, his new home had a dominant Pit Bull mix who did not to share the limelight (or even the house) with Jake and made living there a bad situation for all. For the sake of both dogs, Jake was relinquished to Rescue so we could find him a new forever home. Jake is fine with other dogs as long as they are not overly aggressive but does not do well with cats. Jake's owner put him through an obedience training class where he graduated with honors. Like most of us who pursue education, it's "use it or lose it" and while Jake hasn't lost his skills, he's a bit rusty But he's a very bright and loving boy so with some consistent leadership and a few obedience reminders, he'll be a great dog for his new family Like most Shepherds, Jake is looking for a home where he will be part of the family. He loves car rides, hanging out with his family, and we know he also likes the water, so Dog Beach could be one of his favorite destinations.

Coastal German Shepherd Rescue of Southern California is a non-profit 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned German Shepherds. Your tax deductible donations go to support these very deserving animals. Coastal was formed to serve communities in the counties of San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.

We are committed to finding loving permanent homes for the orphaned dogs in our care. Coastal is an all volunteer, no-kill, 501 (c) 3 non profit organization.

The minimum adoption donation ranges from $400 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100% tax deductible.

Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.

Each dog has an initial exam, including Rabies, DHLPP-C, & Bordetella. All dogs are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. Our adoption process begins with completing an application on-line. A phone screening will soon follow, and lastly a home visit will be conducted by our volunteers.
