My Story

Please carefully read Jake's bio before applying to adopt Our adoption process and application can be found on our website; www.straytoplay.org/adopt Ideal home: Jake will thrive in a home where his people aren't out too much. Someone who will play with him and allow him to have his zoomies but who is patient and willing to work with him. He would do best in a detached home or townhouse as he does still have some reactivity to dogs and a yard is helpful. He is quite a social dog with people and he could do well in a home with older children. He would likely be more suitable to being the only dog or with one other dog. Personality: Jake is very sweet and loving. He has turned into a cuddler and likes to be near people. He is very gentle when taking treats and is generally well behaved. He's got a great personality once comfortable and wants to play with his humans and likes to race around with zoomies and he is happy in those moments. He is not a big fan of playing with other dogs and he seems to prefer people, but he mostly gets along well with other dogs. Age: ~3 years old Breed: Lab mix Weight: 60lbs Gender: Male Energy level: Medium Good with dogs: Jake is currently fostered with two other dogs. He's gotten along well with one from the start, but took some time to warm up to the other and there were instances where he would charge the other dog without warning. After about a week, they seem to have all adjusted to one another but he will require consistency. Good with cats: Unknown Good with kids (+ ages): 12+ Good with strangers: He is fine with people and hasn't been reactive. He may stick back a bit for a moment, then will go smell and is totally fine. Guarding issues: None seen Behavioural issues: Jake was under socialized and untrained in his past home, he will need to continue working on his leash reactivity. In his previous home, his behaviour went unchecked and eventually escalated, resulting in a bite to a visitor in the home. House trained: Yes Crate trained: He gets very anxious and loud when crated. He is much better suited to be left out and doesn't get into anything and not destructive. Separation anxiety: None seen Destructive: Only when crated Leash skills: Jake is great on walks both with his foster's other dogs and alone. He will bark if he sees another dog but when corrected and told to leave it he usually does. Consistency will be important as he has a history of leash reactivity. Okay with manipulations: He is fine with all touching. He loves to come up and give a nose boop to our faces. Medical issues: None
